5. it's too late
to implement such a plan you need a peaceful or at least a situation under control and a non-corrupted administration. This is whisful thinking.

pull out before you get kicked out. That's what happened to the Brits in Basra. They got kicked out, they didn't retreat. And the Brits had a better experience in dealing with civilians than the US have. Now the Brits are pinned on an airstrip waiting to go home...

7. If I praise Joe Biden for doing the heavy lifting on international matters
as he often does on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, I also am inclined to ask the vacuous incumbent why his 6 1/2 year administration has presided over the most violent landscape in the Middle East of recent memory.

Bush, leaving no one any good solutions in Iraq, must answer to his historians, and my guess is they are not going to cut him much slack.

Biden takes the long view without skimming over the present detail, and it multiplies the wrinkles on his face even as it persuades more and more people that he's the sort of grown-up who might make one hell of an excellent president.
