As a Kerry fan, I'm hoping Edwards catches fire. |
|
No joke.
1. It will keep the media focused on the primaries for longer, giving both the party and the nominee some much needed free press on all the networks.
2. It will be more of a trial by fire for Kerry, allowing him to prove himself now so he will be more tested/prepared in football season. The same exact reason can be said for Edwards regarding Kerry.
3. It will make the voters in states that vote later feel like they count. I live in IL, and we vote the 18th of March, and I can empathize with my roommate, a Clark guy whose pissed he couldn't vote for the General (He will anyway). This will help encourage grassroot support and voter enthusiasm.
4. I like Edwards, and have absolutely no problem whatsoever supporting him in the fall. I just like Kerry more.

I was just saying something similar myself. As long as the slings and arrows don't get nasty, and provide fodder for the Rove camp, then I am thrilled with all the media attention the Democratic race is getting, even more so as it narrows.
We keep our eyes on the prize, but part of the way to get that prize is to get people to pay attention; listen; think.
Cheers, s_m

And they both have great hair, among other sterling qualities.
If they were smooshed together, we could call them Kerwards. ;)

14. This Kerry fan would gladly support Edwards |
|
I still think Kerry will win the nomination in the end, and I hope he does, but I have no problem with a more competive primary or getting behind Edwards 100% if he were to win the nomination.

22. John Edwards is lighting a fire under John Kerry's... |
|
...um, behind...
Kerry really mailed it in during the last debate, and he needs some serious competition before he's ready to take on Bush.

OK ... I am still an unabashed Clark dude ... but let's face it, we really lucked out this year when it came to candidates. Even the "fringe guys" (as the pundits called them) Kucinich and Sharpton turned out to be class acts in a major way and had a positive impact on the dialog. (Kucinich is a major visionary, IMHO.)
No matter who wins the nomination, we win. Even me, though my guy dropped out. Not a bad situation, when ya think of it. Of course, I still think the DNC needs a shake up/clean out. But things could be worse. Much worse. We got at least an even shot at sending Shrub back to the range.

Which is why Kucinich, Sharpton, and Dean should also stay in, should keep showing up at the debates, and should keep campaigning.
The untold, unnoticed story of this primary season is...
TURNOUT!
EXCITEMENT!
ENGAGEMENT!
And why?
Because of a crowded field of interesting candidates bring different messages and points and ideas to an active, dynamic, INTERESTING race for the nomination.
Since Kerry has opted out of public financing, he will not be hurt by a long primary season....
Assuming he gets the final nod, there is no reason to stop this Democracy Road Show barnburning bush-bashing extravaganza when it is just getting interesting....
