1. what the spinners fail to say |
|
is that maybe the low approval of congress has something to do with the republicans still being able to thwart any good ideas coming down the pike from the democrats?

Nobody expects anything out of Bush anymore. The 29% approval rating is a reflection of the inattentive, the uninformed and the willfully misguided.
Congress, on the other hand, was given a mandate as big as all outdoors last November: Start cleaning out this muck. Americans went to the polls and returned an overwhelming shout that things needed to change, and change now. They put Democrats in power expecting something to happen, and yet we have more troops than ever in Iraq, we're wasting even more money in this sinkhole, and Congress seems unwilling or incapable of doing anything, even though the way is clear. Put the Republicans on the spot, and force them to try to stop you from cutting off the funding or setting deadlines for withdrawal. Ignore the yammering classes who predict chaos and carnage in Iraq, because it's already there. Do the job we sent you to do. Now.

What can the Dem congress point to as their acheivments since taking office? The minimum wage? Hey, that's nice and all but it ain't going to fire up the electorate.
I think most people are so fed up with politics that it may be beyond hope of getting people to care. We have a ruling class in this country made up of people who live far better off than any of us, who get perks none of us could envision, who get lobbied with free dinners, golf outings, concerts, weekend retreats, etc. And who spend 99% of their time trying to get re-elected. Someone tell me -- why should the citizens think so highly of them?

I think you are exactly right.
And we are unfortunately getting to the point where no one expects anything of congress anymore. GOpers screwed this nation royally. Now we have a Dem majority. Nothing has changed.
Very unfortunate. It has to get better. It just has to.
