Here is political compromise in a nutshell:
Bob: Let's kill all the Jews!

Tim: No! Let's not kill ANY Jews!

Larry: I know! We can kill SOME of the Jews!

--------

Finding a middle ground between justice and evil only results in more evil.

4. That first line sums it up pretty well
Nazi Germany has risen again, and nobody here cares.

"How did the Germans let it happen?"

My answer is this: We are not as civilized as we think...and we don't really care when people wreck our world.

I am not Jewish but I simply must speak out against such casual dismissal of Hitler's attempt to rid the planet of Jews. I hope you are just too young and too uninformed to appreciate the reality of the Holocaust. Please do more research, talk to some people who are Jewish or just think deeply about what I have just said. Good luck to you.

it makes you look bad.

This is not a casual dismissal- this is an understanding that * can do more than Hitler could have ever dreamed. Hitler never managed to get a nuclear weapon(although he tried). * has THOUSANDS of them...even dismissing how many people have died because of his actions.

Will his wars have a deathtoll of more than 26 million? We'll just have to see.

40. If it's that desperate then why are you posting on the internet?
Do you actually expect us to believe that we are in a situation as dire as being under Nazi Germany, that all of our freedoms are completely gone and we will be carted off to concentration camps any day now, and the way to go about fighting this is to post on the internet?

Things are bad under Bush, of course. He and the administration have done despicable things. Iraq was and is a war crime. Bush has clearly ben the worst president we have ever had. But if you really believe that Bush is about to start a nuclear holocaust, then complaining about things on the internet isn't exactly an proportional response.

I'd do far more if I were able- but I have $67 to my name until next Friday. Makes it hard to get much done. But I very much believe that the situation IS that dire, and that left unchecked as he has been, Bush could very well become the next great bogeyman that people frighten the entire world with.

When * came to power, a pagan family's house was firebombed in my area by members of a local fundie church...they didn't bother to check if anyone was home either. That was never investigated, because of who those people belonged to.

I knew when that happened, and the fact that they were protected by the Repubs in my area, that none of us that harbored "improper" viewpoints were safe under this regime.

Just feel lucky that you haven't witnessed such things...

Your dismissal of the 3rd Reich's other "works" shows that you don't know or don't care about all of the other nasty business that occurred because of Hitler's reign of terror, and how that relates to today.

It might interest you to know that several major companies in America provided material support to the Nazis...and they are still giants today. They helped to make the 6 million happen.

and even then, you don't mention how many Rom, Homosexuals and other "undesirables" were killed.

The deathtoll in the war in general, probably not counting civilians, was over 60 million. It was likely over 100 million.

If you are going to speak of it, tell the whole story, rather than helping the people who say, "I don't see any ovens, do you?"

Edited on Wed Sep-19-07 05:15 PM by Dr Fate
The "centrists" are always setting a low bar when it comes to holding conservatives accountable, no?

Remember when Rush Limbaugh and the Rightwing media was making the exact same argument when certain Democrats accused certain forms of torture of being akin to Nazism?

"You cant say it reminds you of Nazis- it's not like 6 million people have been killed"...yet.

13. Care to phrase that in the form of a wager?
I've been telling people that Nazi Germany was coming since 2000. If I'd forced them to put money down, I could have bought a house by now.

Let's see...I don't need to make a full list of comparisons...that would be a waste of my time, and is all on wikipedia and other such sites. Hmmm...since no one(other than the ones working at them) knew about the ovens until the allies came through, that one is a foul by you. Lets look at:

Bush unelected 2000
9/11 allowed to happen
Afganistan and Iraq invaded on the excuse of 9/11
Bush unelected 2004
Military Commisions Act 2006 passed to give excuse of detention without charge
FISA Gutted
Threatening Iran and Syria

And those are just the big ones. Would you like me to continue, or am I disturbing your belief that we are somehow in a better place?

their ultimate threat to the furthered life of mankind is Muslims, ours is Bush. What's the difference?

11. No, HERE is political compromise in a nutshell:

Bicameral legislature, Bill of Rights, proportional representation, the works.

Political compromise produced the finest governmental framework ever :patriot:

65. Here we go. There is no language 'commanding' impeachment.
Edited on Wed Sep-19-07 04:16 PM by Richardo
It says in the event of impeachment, the punishment shall be removal from office.

74. Semantics. Even if it did command or mandate it, the DLC would still protect Bush from it.
Edited on Wed Sep-19-07 04:37 PM by Dr Fate
That's what seem to they do- they support, make excuses for, and protect Bush when it comes to impeachment or his war based on lies.

Next you will tell me that starting a war based on lies is neither a high crime nor a misdemeanor.

61. No-it is the document that commands us to IMPEACH criminals, not to compromise with them.
Edited on Wed Sep-19-07 04:33 PM by Dr Fate
On edit- all semantics aside- the Constitution arguably does compel us to impeach for high crimes and misdemeanors.

71. "High crimes" compels impeachment. A minor semantics error doesnt excuse DLC cowardice.
Edited on Wed Sep-19-07 04:36 PM by Dr Fate
The High Crimes of Bush more than suggest or compel impeachment- of course the hemming & hawing, cowardly, pro Bush, pro-war DLCers think otherwise-that is certainly no secret.

One that costs us billions & billions of dollars.

I guess I'm supposed to believe it's all part of some "compromise" we made with liars & criminals- just like the Founders intended- right? LOL!

Edited on Wed Sep-19-07 04:38 PM by Dr Fate
It's not meaningless to say this continuing war is based on the lies of right-wingers and so-called "centrists"-it's 100% factual- but one who is trying to defend Bush against impeachment or one who is continuing to support the war effort might try to say that.

19. Actually, political compromise is often more like this:
Bob: I want HR256 to pass, so that we can fund farming programs.

Tim: I can't support it unless itdevotes more land to avian habitat.

Larry: I know! Let's attach a rider to the bill, so that avian habitat is subsidized!

Rarely are the choices such polar opposites.

Bob: I want to defund welfare. Fuck the poor.

Tim: Let's compromise. I'll agree to drastically reduce accessibility to welfare services, and even make it easier for corporations to offshore hundreds of thousands of jobs just to make the deal sweeter, if you'll impeach me.

Bob: Can I poke you in the eye with a sharp stick?

Tim: Sure.

Bob: Deal!

Just because compromising with Nazis is evil doesn't mean all compromise is evil. A democratic society cannot function without compromise because people don't agree on everything, "My way or the highway" is totalitarian BS.
