The Dixie Chicks need a little help from their friends. Please vote.

This is linked on the MSN page, it is getting a lot of freeper response. And they can vote only once, unless they do that cookie thing....whatever...to keep on voting.

Do the Chicks deserve a nod from the CMA (Country Music Association awards)? And in language I don't usually employ...You're damned straight they do.

Here's why though...I'm not sure they deserve a "nod" ; I'm assuming that means a nomination for CMA awards-- for two reasons. First, I'm not sure they're really country anymore; they've really gone crossover, and intentionally so as far as I can see.They have seen, to their disappointment , who and what much of the country audience is, and basically have said, screw em, we don't need em if they're going to boycott us, and even threaten us for speaking our allegedly constitutionally protected opinions. Which is part of the second reason; the Country establishment and fans don't deserve the Dixie Chicks. They've forfeited the privilege of appreciating them, much like my attitude of being glad when I hear right wingers say they hate Bruce Springsteen or other progressive artists who take a stand. In my book, they, by definition as conservatives, can't possibly understand what Bruce is singing about, and once again, forfeit the privilege of appreciating him. I guess in short I'm saying yes, the Chicks deserve it, but the CMA and the country music fans don't deserve the Chicks. I also want to say that I'm even less of an objective observer than most of the others posting here, who also like and respect the Chicks. I did a show at the New Mexico State Fair in 1992 with a blues band, and the powers the be inexplicably paired us up , alternating sets, with " some all girl country band from Texas". Yeah, it was them (actually the two sisters, and a third member later replaced by Natalie Maines--never met her but several of my friends know her dad--a great steel guitar player-- from working with Joe Ely in Texas and have known Natalie since she was a little kid). Got to hang out with them during the down times that day (and we weren't even on the main stage--that's how unknown they were), and nicer, sweeter people you'll never meet. So I've taken the whole saga of their ups and downs personally; they're real people; people I knew if only for a day, that all this was happening to, who were being blacklisted, threatened etc. I'm so proud of em, and they deserve the success they've had, they're the real deal, and if the redneck element doesn't like em anymore, fuck em.

28. you're probably right, of course...

about many country fans still liking them; not fair I suppose to generalize about the fans... But the country music establishment ( both the Nashville business aspect, as well as country radio) continues the blacklisting unabated as far as I can tell (and I hope I'm wrong about this too). I've always wondered if the Chicks remembered us; not that they haven't done a zillion shows since then, but our lead singer was about 8 1/2 months pregnant, and the girls were all making a big fuss over her; how cool they thought it was that she was up there belting out the blues like that.
