Randi Rhodes continues to show she can't keep up with the news |
|
I've been listening to her lionizing poor little Andrew Meyer, whose screedish tantrum led to getting tasered, and her continued dissing of Kerry for not stopping the police for doing their duty to stop someone flailing his arms at them.
She apparently doesn't know that the woman who videotaped Meyer after he handed her his camera to film the event has come out and said that Kerry DID want to help out.
She's lazy and has become more and more predictable as time has gone on.

21. I agree to a certain extent. |
|
She interacts with callers well as long as they get to the point quickly and make good arguments.
But I've heard her cut off callers she thought talked too long (even when they were interesting) with "it's my show," or words to that effect. My reaction to that was, "uh, it's a call-in show--so don't the callers get to talk?"

2. Her guest is now elaborating on Kerry's attempt.... |
|
...and she is softening her stance. Give her credit, she knows when to admit that she's made a mistake.

10. She just went off ranting about Kerry "doing nothing" |
|
Are Kerry's duties as a Senator to be a cop as well? Should he jump into a police scuffle and endanger his life for some putz?

27. Not to mention that Kerry |
|
either jumping down and moving towards the police or shouting at the police would have made a bad situation worse. You really don't want to turn a 700 person event into a confrontation of the police vs a group of people. He would more likely be endangering some of the innocent kids rather than himself.

|
I'm sorry that I'm so out of touch too. Randy's not my favorite on AAR, but it seems a bit harsh to get on her for that. I've been reading constantly about this for over a day on liberal blogs and haven't seen a single word defending Kerry's actions.

Not a single word? You probably want to reconsider the objectivity of what you're choosing to use as news sources if that's the case.

in police activity?? Just asking and Randi has been off my list for ages. Overbearing is a good description, got so I couldn't stand that voice anymore. Too bad, she used to be so informative, funny, etc....

18. She lost me when a moderate Republican obviously frustrated with his party |
|
but not convinced he should support Democrats called in and asked her some very good questions obviously intended to help him find his way. He was polite and respectful but had obviously been misled by his party but clearly was looking for a reason to get out. She was so nasty and abrupt with him and then cut him off completely. It was apalling.
That was the last time I listened to her.

could only last ten years and was done, thoroughly burnt-out, same with Bill Walsh....others like Don Shula & Bill Parcells, they couldn't get enough of it.
Ones personality I suppose. Maybe Randi is just plain burnt-out?

9. I was just cut off AAR after being on hold for an hour |
|
Edited on Wed Sep-19-07 04:20 PM by zulchzulu
The screener wanted to know what I was going to talk about and I said that there is video from someone on CNN who said that Kerry did indeed want to help.
I was on hold for an hour and was just cut off before I could speak.
The truth must hurt so much that even she has to censor her "message".
What I was going to say in a Meyer-like way:
Is John Kerry a cop or a Senator?
Is disturbing the peace no longer a valid law?
If the woman who videotaped the event thinks that Kerry did try to help, is she lying?
In the video, Meyer clearly was resisting the police and once that line is crossed, game over. Should police let people wrestle with them when they try to arrest them or handcuff them?
I could go on. I was ready to rip her a new one. But no...

11. If DU has taught me nothing else -- |
|
it has taught me that any number of people can look at the same situation and read it entirely differently. Here's my take: Meyer is an avowed provocateur, the cops were ham-handed in dealing with him, and Kerry could have stopped it. I believe I've provided something for everybody to disagree with. :) And life goes on.

19. I used to really like Randi, used to listen all the time, no more, she's gotten mean and |
|
Edited on Wed Sep-19-07 06:58 PM by LaPera
acerbic....I think she thought she'd always be the queen and would zoom to the top as the most sought after, best paid and in demand queen liberal....instead she's in the same place, nothing wrong with that - only she now seems more abrupt with very little patience with her callers, she now harps when she used to educate, had new ideas while offering it with great humor, enthusiasm & understanding...now she's seems so bitter....I still like her mainly because she is a liberal, but I can't listen to her for very long anymore, just short doses....sometimes she even sounds uninformed, like she doesn't get it and when a caller tries to explain their position she angrily dismisses them and talks on & on about only what she wants to talk about...I never thought I'd ever use this word describing the once excellent Randi Rhodes....but she's become boring.
What's that song by the Stones...a line about.... "Queen of the underground"?

25. I agree. She's beginning to wear very thin with me |
|
You don't reach people by calling them stupid and screaming at them. It's one thing to go off on some wingnut that calls in - but she doesn't seem able to have a calm discussion when someone disagrees with her. And, I've gotton fed up with the way she treats callers who basically agree with her, but may not be especially articulate.
Yesterday someone called in telling her to watch the longer recording of the taser incident at some web link - and she was shrieking she didn't need to, she'd seen in on CNN. Any other day of the week she'd be complaining about the MSM, including CNN, not telling us anything and slanting the news against the Democrats. But apparently yesterday CNN had reformed and would never consider editing the tape in anyway to make Kerry look as bad as possible.
I wish they'd put Rachel Maddow or Sam Seder in that time slot.

26. I can see concern about police over reacting, but he is no hero |
|
This was an event that was pretty special for students at that school. They had one of best foreign policy thinkers in the party explaining Iraq, national security, and the middle east. They then had time to ask questions and meet informally. I would bet that nearly 699 out of the 700 people there wanted to keep that the agenda.
The Senate speech Kerry just gave on Iraq was incredible - weaving his experience in Vietnam, his knowledge of culture, politics and the societies in that area - all put together to support the Democratic position and to counter each of the Republican objections. I would bet that some of the richness of that speech and others were in his Florida speech. My guess is that he gave the kids a lot to think about.
This was hi-jacked by someone, who wanted attention. People here have said he wanted answers to questions, but if that were the case, he would have listened when Kerry started to answer the question. Randi is enthralled because he asked HER questions - and she doesn't get that it was for the shock value.
