GOP's Cornyn To Introduce Senate Resolution Criticizing MoveOn Ad
As Congress considers a series of bills that would drastically alter the course of the Iraq war, one prominent Republican senator will be focusing his efforts on condemning a newspaper advertisement.

The Huffington Post has learned that Sen. John Cornyn, R-TX, will introduce a sense of the Senate resolution Thursday criticizing MoveOn.org's recent advertisement in the New York Times. The ad called into question the credibility of Lt. General David Petraeus, suggesting the pseudonym "Betray Us."

Cornyn's amendment proclaims that the general "deserves the full support of the Senate." The MoveOn advertisement, Cornyn's legislation states, not only "impugns the honor and integrity of General Petraeus," but "all the members of the United State Armed forces."

Perhaps in hopes of gaining support for his amendment, Cornyn's measure would also "reaffirm support for all the men and women of the United States Armed Forces."

Cornyn's bill comes on the heels of a GOP filibuster of an amendment, put forth by Sen. Jim Webb, D-VA, requiring that troops be given the same amount of time at home as they spend deployed abroad. A call to Cornyn's office to determine whether a vote against his measure would be regarded as a vote against the troops went unanswered.

Read the text of the amendment here.

1. I hope then, that a Democrat will introduce a
sense of the senate resolution decrying Cheney telling a US Senator to go fuck himself.

This is silly, utter nonsense. Why would Cornyn want to defend an "ass kissing little chickenshit" like Gen. Betrayus. Oh, I forgot, it's because ass kissing little chickenshits like Cornyn have to remain loyal to their chickenshit in chief.

2. And, how about a Sense of the Senate Resolution decrying
Suxby Chambliss' ad against a war hero named Max Cleland? If Cornyn plays that game, the Dems ought to fight back.

13. Oh, wait ... here's the explanation by Cornyn on why this is different:
"He's covering for a Republican!"

Seriously, here's what he spun yesterday, from the Congressional Record:

"To try to resurrect the old political battles of the past with regard to what happened in the Georgia Senate race, or what happened in the race for President of the United States, we are not going to achieve consensus here. Those were political races and those people are public figures. I don't like it when I am criticized any more than my colleagues do, including Senator Kerry or Senator Cleland. But that is an apples-and-oranges comparison to somebody who is wearing the uniform of a U.S. soldier who is performing his duty to report to Congress on the progress of military operations in Iraq."

Right ... I wonder how many of the Dems who aren't in political races Cornyn would defend with the same logic?

:eyes:

16. I wonder what Cornyn had to say about Dan Rather exposing
Bush's record ... remember, in 2004, Bush was running for office ... a public figure ...

Somehow, I don't believe that he defended Dan's "freedom of speech" the way he's defending the Swift Boat Liars'; more likely he condemned Rather the same way he's attacking Moveon.org ...

7. How about a sense of the Senate resoulution decrying having defense contractors
build additions on Senator's homes, or one tailored for Larry Craig and another for Vitter.

Or maybe, one for hunger, poverty, homelessness, or any number of issues, like universal health care......

Or maybe, let's just let these idiots show what idiots they are, and leave it at that.

11. Shallow Cornyn has nothing better to do.
Like offer legislation that will be good for America. He is an embarrassment to Texas because he offers nothing to his constiuents other than kissing Bush's ass and starting trouble.
