Kucinich noted that Americans spend more than $2 trillion a year on health care, and upwards of $600 billion covers costs that have nothing to do with care: profits, dividends, exorbitant salaries, executive compensation, stock options, advertising, paperwork, and coordination and duplication of services among the many private companies.

“Take that money out of the pockets of the for-profit companies and put it into providing a national health care plan that covers everyone for everything,” Kucinich said. Comparing and contrasting the differences among the Cinton, Obama, and Edwards plans “is a phony debate,” he charged. “If they’re afraid of offending their campaign contributors from the for-profit health care industry, or they’re concerned about whatever personal investments they have in that industry, they should be honest about it and just say so.”

He continued, “I can’t be bought, and I can’t be bossed, and that’s why I’m the only candidate willing and eager to challenge the insurance companies and pharmaceutical companies. The sooner we get the profit out of the system, the sooner every American can have access to comprehensive health care. It’s a right, and this nation has a moral and social responsibility to provide it.”

5. Its even more important than he says.
We CANNOT go with one of these other plans, because they mask the problem.

The only reason we are having this debate is because 47 million people don't have health care. If we put together some hybrid insurance sponsored plan, everyone will be "covered" and the ability to have the debate will vanish.

So "everyone" will be covered in a crappy system that provides inadequate care to those without the BEST plans or the money to go outside a plan. A small minority will be outraged because, "well, everyone's got coverage, if they need better coverage, get a better job."

These hyrbid plans are being proposed just to shut people up, not to solve the problem.

6. Thanks, Milo. I think what will happen with the so-called "hybrid" plans is...
The private plans will go to high-deductible policies. The wealthy can afford it, and the healthy people will risk going to high-deductible policies, because they don't think they will get sick.

And the less healthy will go to the public plan(s) -- driving up the costs because you don't have the healthy people subsidizing the less healthy.

Adverse selection.

which makes the American people a cash crop for the insurance companies."

10. You're right. It would stop the debate- cold.
Just because everyone has "coverage", doesn't mean they'll have HEALTH CARE.

We have been so scared about single payer healthcare, and how OMG :scared: it might be socialism...that we never stop to really look closer at what is involved.

The red scare lives on and on and on......

7. We will see what is important to Americans after the primaries.
Does the war matter? How about health care for all? Is the constitution even up there on Americans list of issues. I cant figure out what issues the other candidates are for that put them above Dennis Kucinich in this election?
