Does MoveOn have a slander case against the U.S. Congress?
Regardless of what you think about MoveOn or their ad, they did nothing wrong. Zero, nada, zilch, they broke no law. Period. Yet, today they were "condemned" and thus slandered by the U.S. Congress. I'm sure MoveOn would like know why Congress thinks they have the power to slander legal speech.

If I were Eli I would consider filing a lawsuit tomorrow. Then again, I'm not a lawyer (thank gawd), so maybe I'm way off base here.

5. That's pretty much a guarantee.
It's up to MoveOn to decide how far they want to take this bullshit condemnation.

6. don't know about the slander case
but MoveOn should IMMEDIATELY put out an ad juxtaposing the Senate voting to condemn them against all the other things they're NOT voting on or are REFUSING to vote on. Hang this waste of taxpayers' time around their necks and let America see how "hard" their Senators are working for them ... especially those headed home to lie and smile and shake hands and pretend they actually give a damn about you just to be re-elected and fuck up and ignore you for another 6 years.

I'm ALMOST to the point of washing my hands of this supposed Dem Leadership.

12. with maybe something about the US congress's dangerously low approval ratings and
Move on's spectacular ratings i.e. hundreds of thousands supporters and don't these stupid and stupefying congress and senate idiots realize how many people mostly activists they are insulting. This will come back to bite them on their lazy fat asses. Imo this betrayal ranks up there with the
FPISA debacle.

7. Congress can't be sued for slander
First, Congress itself is not a legal entity under the law. And second, Members of Congress are immune from suits for slander under the Speech and Debate clause.

8. This just makes Congress look stupid and Move-On look good.
IMO, Petraeus is betraying his men and America to curry political favor. Look at the casualty numbers. In spite of the surge, they have not changed for the better. And, from what I hear, Anbar improved (if it really has) because we withdrew our control and let the local Iraqis take care of themselves. The surge cost a lot of money and lives and disrupted a lot of lives and families and for nothing. A good argument can be made that Petraeus is not doing a good job and that he is supporting a bad policy for political reasons.
