What would a real General say about today's Senate resolution... |
|
Edited on Thu Sep-20-07 12:38 PM by WCGreen
Or rather, what should a real General serving the United States of America say about the actions taken on his behalf by the US Senate...
We all know what General Petraeus is saying about the ham handed way politicians are using him as a political battering ram...
General Petraeus is saying absolutely nothing...
By him setting himself above the political infighting, he is condoning this little exercise in political theater...
So, again I ask, what would a real American General say about the actions of the US Senate...
In a democracy where the General knows he is an employee of the people, all the people, not just the one's who are on the side of the politicians....
What would that American General have to say...
In a democracy where the Army serves the people and not the political establishment, What would a real American General say...
A real General, a real American General would have said I signed on to protect the freedoms we all enjoy as American citizens...
A real General would have proudly pointed to the MoveOn.org New York Times ad as a sign that there is still a country worth fighting for...
A real General would have recognized that the US should never march lockstep behind any military or political leader, they should question, use their guaranteed rights to voice dissatisfaction with the way a real General, in a democracy, is conducting a war on their behalf...
A real American General would have stood up and explain why it is he really fights...
A real General, a real American General would have said, thanks, but no thanks to the US Senate and their political grandstanding...

3. I wouldn't have run that ad |

In fact, I would have suggested not running it. My reasoning is that it helped the Republicans suck all the air out of the conversation (I know, I know, tha was a mixed metaphor. . . sorry) and it should have been obvious that that would happen. I don't think that served any purpose.
However, now that it is out there, I defend Move Ons right to do it. After all, excoriating acting generals is an old American tradition, going back to George Washington, Ulysses S. Grant, and others.
