2. These Americans' activities were very unAmerican.
They spoke their mind, and they should be condemned for it by wasting at least 4 hours of time in the US Senate.

I'm glad someone else sees McCarthyism rearing its ugly head.

17. but on the floor of the senate
Boxer condemned the move to condemn the ad pointing out the hypocrisy that no one was willing to go the distance when Kerry and Cleland were smeared.

THAT's what gets me - the absolute hypocrisy of this entire episode. If Democrats didn't agree with the ad, then they should have abstained from the vote, they should not have voted FOR IT. They should have KNOWN that this was really about the 'thugs reaching out to their base and winning the messaging game once again.

Fuck the Republickers. I just donated $29.47 to MoveOn.org

I chose the amount of $29.47 in honor of Barbara Boxer's Amendement number 2947 to the Repuke bill.

And thumbs up to Sens. Clinton and Dodd.

20. Rush Limbaugh: Dem party represents al Qaeda in the USA
Not one single GOP fuckhead condemns Rush Limbaugh's daily evil rants. Where are the Dem leaders to point this out? Instead they cave in. Time and time again. Where are the Dem leaders to say "You condemn Hannity, I will condemn MoveOn.Org."

I'm waiting for the 'we didn't have the votes' crowd to show up at any moment with their bag of stupid excuses.

Kohl certainly does not have to bow to corporate or media pressure. He is rich enough to never be defeated. I think his wealth just makes him more conservative. But surprisingly, he votes with the party 96% of the time.

...or at least the bill number so I can look it up?

I ask because quite frankly I find it hard to believe that some of these people were expressing anything regarding MoveOn's right to free speech. Rather, I suspect they were expressing disapproval of the content of the MoveOn ad. Big difference.

39. Here it is:
I see nothing in this amendment that restricts MoveOn's freedom of speech. Nothing. What on earth are you talking about?

SEC. 1070. SENSE OF SENATE ON GENERAL DAVID PETRAEUS.

(a) Findings.--The Senate makes the following findings:

(1) The Senate unanimously confirmed General David H. Petraeus as Commanding General, Multi-National Force-Iraq, by a vote of 81-0 on January 26, 2007.

(2) General Petraeus graduated first in his class at the United States Army Command and General Staff College.

(3) General Petraeus earned Masters of Public Administration and Doctoral degrees in international relations from Princeton University.

(4) General Petraeus has served multiple combat tours in Iraq, including command of the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) during combat operations throughout the first year of Operation Iraqi Freedom, which tours included both major combat operations and subsequent stability and support operations.

(5) General Petraeus supervised the development and crafting of the United States Army and Marine Corps counterinsurgency manual based in large measure on his combat experience in Iraq, scholarly study, and other professional experiences.

(6) General Petraeus has taken a solemn oath to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States of America.

(7) During his 35-year career, General Petraeus has amassed a distinguished and unvarnished record of military service to the United States as recognized by his receipt of a Defense Distinguished Service Medal, two Distinguished Service Medals, two Defense Superior Service Medals, four Legions of Merit, the Bronze Star Medal for valor, the State Department Superior Honor Award, the NATO Meritorious Service Medal, and other awards and medals.

(8) A recent attack through a full-page advertisement in the New York Times by the liberal activist group, Moveon.org, impugns the honor and integrity of General Petraeus and all the members of the United States Armed Forces.

(b) Sense of Senate.--It is the sense of the Senate--

(1) to reaffirm its support for all the men and women of the United States Armed Forces, including General David H. Petraeus, Commanding General, Multi-National Force-Iraq;

(2) to strongly condemn any effort to attack the honor and integrity of General Petraeus and all the members of the United States Armed Forces; and

(3) to specifically repudiate the unwarranted personal attack on General Petraeus by the liberal activist group Moveon.org.

40. The denial here today is amazing.
What do you think free speech is really? It is the freedom NOT to have your own Democratic congress condemn you when you are telling the truth.

"(3) to specifically repudiate the unwarranted personal attack on General Petraeus by the liberal activist group Moveon.org. "

41. This is what freedom of speech is:
Freedom of speech means the freedom to say whatever you want.

Freedom of speech does not mean the freedom to say whatever you want and have everyone else respond with approval or silence.

The Senate has the right to voice its opinion on anything it wants to. It has done so in the past and it will do so in the future. For example, in the past it has voted to condemn the opinions and positions of racist organizations operating in the US, but I didn't hear any Democrats blathering on about infringing people's freedom of speech then. In fact, as I recall, most Democrats got pretty upset when Republicans blocked the bill from passage...

33. Name ONE positive result from that ad
all it did was mobilize the dead-as-a-doornail Republicans and put Democrats on the defensive. Was a single person converted as a result of that ad? A fence-sitter who was once supported the war and now oppsed it because of "Betray-Us"? John Kerry, who knows a thing or two about protesting a war, even more than the New York-based netroot nimrods who penned this piece of tripe, called the ad, "over the top."

But what does he know?

Maybe you should watch Fox News one night and see the ridiculous shit that they say every single night. You could make a book out of the things they ought to be condemned for every single night. But you don't see any GOPers out there opposing them do you?

Its called if you can't say something good about the ad, for God's sake, at least don't vote to condemn it. The GOP doesn't condemn Rush Limbaugh!
