What makes the Edwards Health Care plan stand out
Edited on Thu Sep-20-07 03:37 PM by LSK
* Choice between Public and Private Insurers: Health Care Markets will offer a choice between
private insurers and a public insurance plan modeled after Medicare, but separate and apart from it.
Families and individuals will choose the plan that works best for them. This American solution
will reward the sector that offers the best care at the best price. Over time, the system may evolve
toward a single-payer approach if individuals and businesses prefer the public plan.

Do people realize the implications of this?

1. Excellent -- let the "free market" PROVE it's the best alternative!
No thumb on the scale, just let the chips fall where they may.

Edwards ought to be REALLY stressing this point. If the "free market" is so great, LET IT COMPETE with public plans like MediCare that get high marks from those who use it.

2. Why seperate and apart from Medicare?
Multiple bureaucracy and extra overhead seem wasteful.

3. Incremental step toward MediCare for all
People need to be CONVINCED that that's the way to go, and as more and more people see how much moer efficient the MediCare-type public plan is, they'll make that choice. It's all in letting people CHOOSE MediCare-for-all, as opposed to it just being imposed on them.

4. right, you will NEVER get there when you force it all at once
Congress works slowly and things evolve, they do not happen instantly.

5. Inneficciency will convince no one.
That is how the GOP enacts programs to prove government can't work.

7. What has my mail being lost have to do with this?
Mistakes are made in both public and private enterprise, so what is the relevancy of that fact?
