I'm inferring that the Republicans tried to pass something condeming the ad? If so, all Democrats should have abstained from voting.

What happened, anyway?

1. It passed bigtime with 72 votes and a number of dems voting with
the republicans. This included John Tester who got over $300,000 from MoveOn when he got elected to the senate.

Well, I think the proper thing to do with a bill condemning free speech would be to abstain.
There is no reason to fall into the political trap of endorsing the message. Simply abstain from voting would have been the smart thing to do. I wonder how many Democrats did that. That seems to have been Obama's approach?

2. I'm devastated that my senators (Cardin and Mikulski) voted for it.

3. I do condemn the ad, personally.
But the senate should not be in the business of condeming political speech. Utter nonsense.

11. Nonsense, indeed. This has started a dangerous precedence in the Senate.

6. What they passed is a 'sense of the Senate' ad, like a Senate opinion poll.
It has no power besides being officially the view of the Senate.

Just wanted to make sure you knew since you're late to the party. My opinion: predictable, but it sucks.

12. I see. If I were a senator I definitely would have abstained. It's a political trap.
By voting "no," they will claim one was endorsing the ad. Just abstain and refuse to participate in their little charade.

13. I find nothing at all wrong with Obama having done just that.
I'm sure he literally had better things to do with his time. Well, nothing would've been a better use of his time too but, I'm sure he found something anyway.

7. 25 Dems voted against it, and 3 abstained 72 voted for it

The resolution was upholding Petrayus' honor and condemning those who "unwarranted-ly criticized" Petrayus and the "entire military", namely Moveon.

Obama, Biden and one other abstained.Their have been several threads that have more details and complete list of Dems in support.

you didn't miss a damn thing but a bunch of horse manure being thrown at the Dems. Some caught it, some missed, and some decided not to play.

I tell ya.....I'm starting to long for that arial view of O.J.'s car from yesterday.
