Letter to the editor--conservatives are happier and more charitable than liberals
(LM: Damn those relatively disorganized, indecisive and perhaps overly drawn to ambiguity liberals! Thank god for happy charitable conservatives!

This letter was printed in the Press of Atlantic City. Pardon me while I make a fruit salad.)

Liberals' brains are flexible? Ever try arguing with one?

The Sept. 10 front-page headline, "Scientists: Liberals' brains are less rigid," was so misleading that a substantive response is in order. Only 43 people were used in the experiment. This is called "science"?

Furthermore, on the front page, the article stated that "liberals are better at responding appropriately to conditions that rapidly change from the routine, are more flexible in their thinking, and are less rigid in their ideas and thinking" than we conservatives. But inside the paper, with much less emphasis, the article continued, saying those same liberals "could be characterized as relatively disorganized, indecisive and perhaps overly drawn to ambiguity."

This study was performed in 2003, yet another study in early 2006 by the left-leaning Pew Research Center concluded that conservatives are much happier than liberals. Rich conservatives more than rich liberals, poor conservatives more than poor liberals - and it also concluded that conservatives are much more charitable than liberals. There was no such headline on the front page citing those conclusions.

I would also especially challenge the "flexibility" attributed to the left. Last year, conservative speakers Pat Buchanan, Bill Kristol, Ann Coulter and David Horowitz were all showered with fruit salad while speaking at liberal colleges. Their speeches had to be discontinued.

Ah, those tolerant and flexible liberals. Try arguing with one - on anything. Sooner or later their tank of ideas filled only with ad hominem attacks will become obvious to anyone who listens to them.

To use that oft-stated axiom, they're seldom right but never in doubt.

3. happy people are assholes.

they are considerably lacking in empathy, compared to unhappy people. like drunk people, unhappy people are more likely to help another person in need (and i don't mean dropping some of your plentiful disposable income in the collection plate to pay for new church carpet, taking the tax break, and calling it "charity"). unlike drunk people, unhappy people are more likely to be an actual help, rather than a hindrance. unhappy people are significantly better informed and aware than happy people. unhappy people have been shown to be significantly more accurate at judging probabilities, especially those probabilities that would affect themselves. it's actually true, to at least some extent, that ignorance is bliss. this concludes social psych 101.

conservatives are motherfucking pricks. they're also wrong about damned near everything. in fact, i think conservatives motherfucking pricks at least partly *because* they are wrong about damned near everything. i dare anyone to find an ad hominem argument anywhere in those three sentences.

5. anyone have a link to the original article? And what a cretinoid; being stubbornly Constitutional is
way better than flexibly power-mad and unprincipled--just look at the DLC, New Labor, and other neolibs trying to clone Reagan and Thatcher

I don’t know what the Press of Atlantic City printed, but this appeared in the LA Times on the same day—has to be related:

It refers to Nature Neuroscience:
