Abstinence Sex Ed Funding Expires Sept. 30 -- not in CHIP compromise bill

Received confirmation in late afternoon that the CHIP bill does not contain the language the US House added in August to re-authorize Title V, Section 510 (abstinence-only education), pending changes to the guidelines requiring it to be medically-accurate and research-based. Unless something happens in Congress in the next 9 days, the funding for abstinence education through Title V will die on the vine.

If it would have been reauthorized, it would almost definitely have been done under the less strict guidelines (for it to be science-based) -- the only way to preserve the more strict guidelines for the other two streams was to allow the funding for Title V to die. At least that's my take on what's happened.
