- Hillary Clinton: A cold, calculating, beltway politician who will sell her ideals to the highest bidder.
- Barack Obama: A naive neophyte that lacks the experience, knowledge, and judgment to deal with the job of running this country.
- John Edwards: A phony, slick, wealthy, trial lawyer, who will say anything to get elected.
- Bill Richardson: A gaffe prone buffoon... you never know what will come out of his mouth.
- Joe Biden: A pompous, arrogant, windbag who is cursed with the gift of gaffe.
- Dennis Kucinich: A kooky, socialist whose only reason for running is to sell his own far left agenda.
- Chris Dodd: An utterly boring and forgettable career politician, whose chances of winning the election are infinitesimal and no one is sure why he is running.
- Mike Gravel: A crazy leftie from a past generation, who reminds everyone of the nutty ranting uncle you hate inviting to dinner.
Does this sound like how the media is packaging our candidates? The mainstream media is lazy and will follow these stereotypes of our candidates without doing the investigation as to the legitimacy of the stereotype. It takes much more effort to investigate policy and qualifications. The sensationalistic aspect of these stereotypes also leads to one-line sound bites that sell MSM advertising.
It's true that all of the candidates have made mistakes that are used to reinforce these media images. However, we need to remember that one of these folks will be our candidate and we don't need to excessively weaken them by constantly repeating the media's slant. I know this suggestion is a case of "spitting into the wind" but let's critique them on policy, record, and capabilities not media stereotypes. You can bet that the repugs are going to use one of these stereotypes on whomever we nominate.
