This is the most important address you can hear at this point in our history
Edited on Sun Sep-23-07 02:22 AM by frogcycle
DUer Think82 posted this in a thread this afternoon, but it is too important to go unnoticed.

It is lengthy - I didn't time it but 'way over the 30 min. he says he'll take.

Listen to every minute of it. You will be smarter about Iraq and perhaps even reconsider criticism of Biden's propensity for lengthy conversation.

You will see a leader at work, with clear cooperation of and admiration from Republican leaders Warner, Brownback, and others. Set aside the time and watch it. Please. I am not asking you to support him in the primaries. I am just asking you to listen. The country needs to make progress without just sitting back and waiting for 2009. We need to grow consensus around an actual way forward - and as Biden says, if his plan needs revision, speak up, he's listening. But we need an actual plan. If the adminstration cannot and will not offfer a plan beyond "stay the course" then the congress needs to force it. This amendment will be voted on next week. If one or both of your senators are republicans, you need to work your tail off lobbying them to vote for this.

Tip: The streaming video is multiple files. Just scroll your Wmedia window all the way to the end, it will then jump to the next file - do the same thing again. Biden's speech starts just after his preliminary remarks in progress at the beginning of file #3.

edit - there is a shortened version here:

43. EVERYONE WATCH THIS SPEECH

http://www.c-spanarchives.org/library/index.php?main_pa...

it's the senate session friday. Biden begins speaking at about 1hr 45 min into the video. They are voting on his plan next week. If you will ever watch anything to prove why Biden is the best candidate in 08 and probably our lifetimes, this video is it. Please watch, even if you are preferring someone else at this point.

section.

Everyone needs to watch this speech.

Especially all the people that say Biden's plan for Iraq is wrong.

The man knows what he is talking about, and that is why I support him.
I want a President that knows more than his SoS.

5. It was an incredible speech
and I know far more about Iraq than I did before. There clearly are republicans who want to cross over and Biden gives them the opportunity to do so. He obviously has been working behind the scenes to make this happen. He is a real pro and he can produce results without turning the senate into a non-productive battlefield.

6. Amazing, inspiring and hopeful. Biden's telling it like it is, no empty
promises, no guarantees, but a plan for us all to have the opportunity to come together and do the best we can for our country and for Iraq.

10. Make that 6 Biden supporters, my friend.
I've been promoting this guy ad nauseum on these boards for a while now, as many here have, because he is simply the best suited, best qualified candidate for the general election and the presidency. He is in a much better position to convince much needed independents and moderate republicans than any other Democratic candidate. I don't want to experience another crushing defeat in the wee hours of election night. We could vastly improve our chances of avoiding that with a Biden candidacy.

14. K & R - it is well worth watching the whole Biden part.
He talks for over an hour, and he KNOWS what he's talking about. I learned a lot, as well, and I appreciate the post - thank you.

16. thanks for watching it
i felt like i had had a guest lecture from a top world history or poli sci professor -
but at the same time not pedantic - maybe it was more like having that professor visit your home and just talk after dinner

The fact that he included people like Warner, & Luger almost offhandedly just added to it. This was not a political speech. This was a very smart guy, with 30 years experience, a sense of history, and clearly a passionate will to make a difference for the good trying to do what his job description says.

I saw him in a town meeting in Iowa. Someone asked why he is running. He answered thoughtfully. He said (paraphrase), you know, I thought about it a long time. I had tried it before, didn't get very far, figured that was behind me. But then I thought about what needs to be done, and how limited I would be in helping if I stayed in the senate, one of a hundred senators, and I said 'I gotta do this.'

17. I like Biden a lot - no need to thank me.
I know that's not a popular thing on DU, but I agree that he does have the most experience, he's a straight-shooter - he doesn't always vote the way I'd like him to, but no one does, really. I like Obama, too, and really my main concern is that someone other than Hillary wins the nomination, because I just don't think she can win the general - she is far too hated by the right. So, basically, whoever has a chance of beating her in the primary is going to get my vote.

There is a long way to go before the primaries, and hopefully, Biden's numbers will get better. I'm going to try to help with that - after seeing him talk, I believe he just might be the best we have, and I KNOW he's the best we have as far as Iraq goes. I'm going to make a small donation (all I can afford) to his campaign, as I did with Obama. Obama doesn't need my money, he's doing quite well, so I'll do what little I can to help Biden.
