Sorry to say winning in 2008 will not be enough. It needs to be a healthy, decisive win otherwise |
|
the new President will not have a mandate, unless the win is a landslide. Because a landslide will give a mandate, and a mandate will give the new President leverage with the Congress.
The new President will need leverage in order to sell progressive programs.
Without a landslide the GOP will co-op the process by saying "although so and so won, it was not a mandate so the people spoke and the country is still divided"...
A close election will give the GOP the will to fight the new President, and make it very difficult to pass new programs. If the new Presidents give this country "more of the same" and is not able to show the American people that progress has been made, it will give the GOP the talking points for the off year elections.
So you see, winning in 2008 will not be enough without a landslide victory. (Something like Reagan did in 1990).
In full disclosure, I am a John Edwards supporter.

1. Winning the Presidency with a half percent will be plenty - |
|
no mandate needed. What is needed is commanding control of the Senate and the House.

3. Take back the senate that's the problem along with the president. |
|
If we had enough votes in the senate and if some of the republicans had the guts to do what the American public want instead of what the monster in the white house wants, we might get something done.
The republicans think if they can make the public think the democrats are a do nothing congress they will get the seats back. And if the democrats don't start preaching this far and wide the republicans are gonna be right. We won't get the seats in the congress.

And since you posted it twice, I agree twice. :hi: If we win more seats in the senate, a wide margin of victory won't be necessary. I think both will happen: a comfortable victory, and more seats in both houses.

Definitely, we have to put aside any current issues with dems and focus on giving them enough control to fix everything.
