Hotline speculation on the Obama announcement
Hotline is speculating that the big announcement today is Harkin endorsing Obama.
this is pure speculation but, thought I'd pass it along.

4. That would be surprising
But very, very nice for Obama, if true.

6. But maybe not worth so much: Harkin endorsed Dean in 2004
So I guess these endorsements don't mean much to Iowa caucus goers.

(I went for Harkin back in 1992 ... didn't care for that young whippersnapper Clinton and disliked Kerrey.)

5. Not Harkin--"Gordon Fischer, the "well-regarded former chair of the Iowa Democratic party."
24 Sep 2007 09:44 am

In a conference call this morning, Obama's campaign manager, David Plouffe, announced that the campaign was endorsed by Gordon Fischer, the well-regarded former chair of the Iowa Democratic Party.

But that really wasn't the reason for the conference call. Rather, the campaign wanted to give Plouffe and Fischer a chance to explain Obama's caucus strategy for reporters.

"We need to couple the grassroots enthusiasm we have with people who know how to do the caucus," Plouffe said.

8. It's a good one
Iowa can be so tricky that having people on your side who know the inside ropes can be a big help.

10. Yes. Excellent for Iowa but no national coat tails...
Unless of course it helps Obama will Iowa which would then have big national "coat tails".
