Poll question: Last possible date for Al Gore's entry to race? |
|
Given how early the primary season is shaping up this year, when's the latest you believe it's possible for Al Gore to announce a candidacy and still be a feasible candidate?

3. I think those two are in a much different category. |
|
Al Gore is a former Vice President whom has become even more well known since, thanks to SNL appearances and "An Inconvenient Truth," among many other things. He doesn't NEED to be in the race quite yet, in my opinion, but his window is closing.
Hagel may be well known in political circles, but he's not very well known otherwise. Hagel's chance has come and gone.
Bloomberg has the money and notoriety from being Mayor of NYC to enter later than Hagel, but he's no where near Gore's league. Bloomberg's deadline is right about now.

8. Gore--October at the latest. Bloomberg-- |
|
next February. He only needs to get on the ballot in all fifty, not compete in the primaries.

2. Rumor has it he's waiting for the Nobel announcement. |
|
But, then again, wishful thinking on my part tends to make these sorts of rumors something to cling to. If only.

5. If he wants to run as a Democrat, wouldn't there be an official deadline? |

7. I went with 10/15 for finality - but I think it already passed. |
|
Actually I would give him a couple more days, but not until November, and I would love Al Gore to prove me wrong.

9. Michigan's registration deadline... |
|
is mid-October, so if he's not in it by then, he probably won't be.

I thought I read over the weekend that the Michigan deadline is 10/23.

10. I would think mid-October. I keep hoping that |
|
Gore comes to the realization that a win for the Dems in 08 isn't optional. It's a necessity.

13. To involved with the primaries, |
|
I think he would need to announce by Nov 1. Some have mentioned here just writing his name in too... Don't think money is an issue with him - the other candidates are just not talking about the climate crisis as anything other than one of the issues of concern. HE would bring the discussion to another level altogether if he ran.
FWIW, keep sharp objects away from me if he hasn't announced by 11/1.

15. If Gore does not get in this October, he might still be a force at the |
|
convention. If enough states' ballots undertake petition drives and place his name in contention on their caucus/primary ballots, he could roll into Denver without lifting a finger, or the convention could turn to him as a consensus candidate in a brokered convention, not likely statistically but perhaps a notch more possible this cycle than in previous years.
It has to be an exciting time for Al Gore. He knows there are only a dozen people -- tops -- in both major parties (more likely it's 5 or 6) with any chance at all to be the in Oval Office in January 2009, and he's one of them.

16. Way long since passed. |
|
Most polls that include him only show him pulling in Edwards level numbers.
He'd need a whole hell of a lot of time and money to break HRC's deathgrip on the lead. The latter shouldn't be any problem. The former... I think that train just left a couple weeks ago.
