Bush administration urges Social Security cuts
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/20957376/

I was looking for something else and low and behold, they are at it again! Remember that $300 you got in 2001? That may have been you one and only SSI payment:
=================================================================================================
WASHINGTON - The Bush administration said Monday the only way to permanently fix Social Security is through some combination of benefit cuts and tax increases.

That was one of the key findings in a new paper on Social Security released by the Treasury Department in an effort to achieve common ground on the politically explosive issue.

"Social Security can be made permanently solvent only by reducing the present value of scheduled benefits and/or increasing the present value of scheduled tax increases," the paper said. The Treasury paper said that while other changes to the giant benefit program might be desirable "only these changes can restore solvency permanently."

1. The rich should pay SS taxes on all of their income. Problem solved.
:grr: Bush* is determined to ruin SS before he leaves office.

The American people already rejected his plan to fix (i.e. destroy) Social Security.

10. I have never seen the fairness of the $90,000.00 cap on SS taxes.
Why should people who make less money have to pay SS taxes on 100% of their income while those making more than $90K annually do not?

13. It's totally not fair. Taxing rich for SS would solve the problem.
SS would be solvent forever.

6. even freepers don't support their wars!!
if Republicans really wanted to win, they wouldn't oppose the tax hikes necessary to fund them. Reagan Republicans weren't willing to pay the taxes to fund the Cold War, but at least Reagan wasn't willing to sacrifice Social Security benefits in the name of solvency.

who can take them seriously now? first they cut taxes, then they start an expensive war with no exit strategy, then they waste away our Social Security surplus, and now they claim Social Security benefits are just too costly! Alan Greenspan didn't buy it, does Bush?

3. Can there be a man or woman alive who did not see this coming after a multi-trillion dollar raid
of the fabled, mythical "lockbox." This solution has always been as good as "money in the bank" as answer to fabled 'puke tax cuts for the most affluent among us.
