John Edwards wins DailyKos Straw Poll - 39% to Obama's 21% and Clinton's 11%
John Edwards posted a huge gain of +5 points which is especially relevent since his next closest competitor, Barack Obama fell 8 points.

John Edwards now has twice as much support as the closest candidate behind him.

1. Just want to point out something ironic about Markos' statement
Edited on Mon Sep-24-07 03:39 PM by wyldwolf
Having watched the straw poll results coming in the last few months, I've noted that once you have a certain sized sample -- a couple of thousand of respondents -- the numbers vary little until the poll hits the various candidate fan sites, message boards, and list-servs. Then, the numbers will move significantly as legions of supporters freep the poll.

Isn't dKos for all extents and purposes a "candidate fan site, message board, and list-serv" for John Edwards?

Did he see Hillary hitting that 11% and say, "whoa! gotta put an end to this!"

3. No and no
There is not "DailyKos listserv". The front page RARELY has anything on it about Edwards at all. The only reason why Edwards dominates DailyKos is because the READERS like him, not because the site admin likes him. In fact, none of the site's admin have endorsed Edwards while several of them have endorsed Obama.

Clinton went up to 12% earlier before he called the poll over. She was actually going down when he stopped it.

It's not like the poll ever meant anything, but now it's just a joke.

21. Sure, people can still vote, but it won't count since he's already released the "official" results
That's why he got 6000 votes in the first hour. And about the same 6000 votes in the 6 hours since then.
People aren't voting if their vote won't count toward the final results.

and rigged and I speak from attending past Dem state caucuses in which we were told to change our votes to John Kerry so we could be uananimous with the corrupt state party that is now totally infiltrated by Clinton supporters.

Go John Edwards!

32. Ya Know... I NEVER Hear MSM Ever Make Any Comments About
DU! I've always wondered about this because this is where I blog "most of the time" yet DU seems never to get mentioned by Wolfie, Tweety or even KO!

Sooooooo, DK must be influential to some extent or they have an inside track to some hook-up! Regardless, THEY seem to be the website that matters. Huff Post gets activity too, but I will admit that I'm NOT one of those who is fixated with MSM! Since Liberal became a nasty moniker, I consider myself more of a "lefty" Progressive because society seems to think it's more palatable. Amy Goodman and I would probably get along quite well!

My point is this.. DK seems to get noticed more than DU, as Rasmussen also gets noticed! FWIW, I often wonder what "Joe Blow" really knows about any of this!!! WE are serious about what goes on, but most either don't give a rats ass, don't want to be bothered or simply "go with the flow" when someone leads them there. Name recognition is all most people understand, thus Kucinich and 2nd tier candidates only get a fly-by! Sad but true!

And HILLARY not only has name recognition, she has Corporations, Lobbyists and BIG DAWG to scoop for her. That DOES NOT mean she's the best we can do!

So for me... John Edwards has shown me that he has HEART and that matters to me. May not be what everyone sees, but I can relate to him on that level!!!

35. DKos is a great site.
We have some very good journalists here on DU, but only a few take the time to write full, researched pieces. DailyKos has hundreds of fantastic diarists, and they're all just normal, everyday activists. I think the writing is outstanding.
They get millions of readers everyday - including Keith Olbermann.

37. So true - the Diaries over there
are more than a comment or two with an outside story posted - Don't get me wrong, I've done that here more than a dozen times and there are a TON of excellent writers here, but over at DK, there are more of the full, reserched peices.

It is really the Daily Edwards. There are a bunch of Edwards supporters really skewing the debate over there.

There is some good stuff written there, but most of the stuff on the election is crap.

28. Seems like you're the one who's confused.
"Perhaps Obama and Clinton should send out mass emailings begging people to go their and vote too."

That is what I was asking you to prove. I'm on the email lists for all the candidates that have them, and I saw no such email from John Edwards. Unless you happen to be on a special list, you're just blowing smoke about his campaign begging people to go to Kos and vote.

And the "rabid anti-edwards hatred" is not just from this post, but the pattern i'ven noticed in your posts around DU.

39. No, DU isn't, either. A poll of DU posters would not indicate...
who would win a general election any more than a poll of DailyKos readers.

Both have readers/posters with certain points of view.

The valid polls are done by services who follow a methodology to get a cross section of voters.

other candidates running besides HILLARY! Gee, hearing all the HOOPLA FROM THE WEEK-END AND today, anybody would think we ONLY HAD ONE person WHO IS A CANDIDATE in the Democratic Party!!

I simply can't understand why we MUST HAVE HILLARY, come hell or high water! Frankly, she scares me to death! Especially since THE DECIDER has started to rally the WING-NUTS into a frenzy by promoting her candidacy and gathering his corrupt money-makers to push the AGENDA to make sure they stick it to us once again!

WAKE-UP... I'm really sick of this HILLARY is all we have crap!

I will apologize a little, I'm just ticked off by this PUSH-POLL for HILLARY or NOTHING stuff!

36. No, but they make for great online arguments, don't they?
I don't understand why people get so worked up, the only thing these polls MAY show are which candidates have strong support among online democratic activists. Even then, I know I didn't vote in it... how many like me?

11,000 votes... even 25,000 votes.. what does that really translate into when you start counting bodies standing in a caucus, or waiting in line at a primary.

Very little, in my opinion.
