Can Dean convince Nader not to run? |
|
Now that Dean is effectively out of the running for the nomination, I would like to see him have a meeting with Ralph Nader. I believe that they both have the same goal of fighting against the establishment of both parties. A Nader run will hurt the Democrats. I think that Dean could get Ralph Nader to work with him to help to change the Democratic Party from the inside, instead of trying to tear it down and rebuild it. If Nader went along with this approach, he could mend a lot of fences with people who are still angry with him over 2000.

1. What if Nader proposes a Nader/Dean or Dean/Nader ticket... |
|
things would really heat up then.

5. I don't think Dean would do that |
|
I don't think his ego is bigger than his desire to get bush out of our White House.
..now Nader, on the other hand... :(

2. No, Nadar is not interested. |
|
Over the many years, he has been invited by progressive Democrats to take part in the process in many ways that would allow his voice to be heard.
I may be wrong, but I don't think he would want to partner up, he relishes his role as a maverick.

However, Dean has been very cool to the idea.

if there was no John Anderson, there wouldn't have been a Ralph Nader. if there was no Eugene McCarthy, there would have been no George McGovern. if there was no Gandhi, there would have been no Martin Luther King. if there was no Buddha there would have been no Gandhi.
Get the idea? It's just silly. Doesn't show a thing accept for a particular take or bias.

7. I've lost any hope in Nader |
|
Looking at what Nader has done over the last couple years has proven to me that the former consumer activist is only running to sate his own ego. I doubt anyone could convince him not to run.

9. Who wants to mend fences with Nader |

The 2000 election showed his ego was far more important than the good of the country, environment, and almost every other important issue.
HE IS IRRELEVENT!

11. Nader will decide on his own. |

He would be the only candidate who is anti-status quo, anti-corporate which appeals to many here and in our country.

12. Nader is a Green party candidate. I would say he would have |
|
as much interest helping "fix" the democratic party as we dems would have wanting to "fix" the republican party.
I think Nader suits the needs of his ego first and I don't see him taking any interest in the progress or shortcomings of the democratic party.

got a little tired of associating with him. By all accounts he is a difficult person.
FWIW--I think the world is a better place having a Nader in it, but his personality is just not suited to party/organization/meetup etc...

Nader does his own thing period. He won't get the Green party endorsement either which makes funding and ballot access that much tougher.
Nader has no interest in mending fences.

Only if Dean can convince him that he really means to represent the people this time. If he can, Dean would get Nader's support and a formidable grass-roots effort will take off. It's all up to Dean & how far behind he's really left the DLC now.

20. If Nader want's to run let him. |
|
It's a free country, and that's why we are Democrats. We express to like democracy, and we like choices. So let the people have a choice. If our candidate (most likely John Kerry) can't win over the progressive vote because he is constantly pandering to the right then that's his fault. It isn't Ralph Nader's fault. If you don't get votes it means you weren't a good enough candidate.
Although I think if we elect Howard Dean or John Edwards we won't have this problem. John Edwards when he speaks -- he speaks to America. He doesn't just speak to the left or the right. He speaks to YOU, and doesn't make excuses for his actions in the past. He takes responsibility for his IWR vote. He's someone you can respect because he isn't lying to your face. He can answer simple yes or no questions with a yes or no.

We're going to win this race by more votes than Nader's going to get, mostly because the majority of his 2000 voters have seen just how "indistinguishable" Gore and Bush were and aren't going to be hoodwinked again. The other reason is the Nader Electoral Math, I;ve done many times before and will again if anyone's interested.
Sure, if a state is as close as FL, then anyone, including the natural law candidate, can turn it but what are the odds?
So why do we care whether Ralph runs? This is our chance to get rid of him once and for all. It gives us an excuse to let the world know about his Wal-Mart profiteering, his union-busting, his financial secrecy, his megalomania, his hypocrisy. An, even better, a fate worse than death for an egomaniac is rejection, and that's what Ralph's going to get if he runs.
RUN RALPH RUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A Kucinich nomination can. Dean can help with that, but I doubt he will, and that says it all in my book. One is as egotistical as the other and they can both piss off.
