Clinton Camp Expects Obama to Best Them by Over $10 Million in Q3 Fundraising
Clinton Camp Raises Q3 Money Expectations for Rival
Clinton Camp Puts Own Q3 Haul at $17-20 Million; Predicts Obama's Over $30 Million
By JENNIFER PARKER
Sept. 25, 2007 —

In the last week before the third quarter fundraising totals are due, the presidential campaign of Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., is busy lowering expectations for their fundraising haul -- and raising expectations for those of her chief Democratic rival -- Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill.

An aide to Clinton's campaign tells ABC News that they expect to have raised between $17 and $20 million in the third quarter fundraising period between July 1 and Sept. 30, and suggested the campaign of Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., will raise over $30 million, thanks in large part to online donations.

Blaming a vacationing donor base during the summer months of July and August, and suggesting previous donors have "maxed out" their contributions to the New York senator in the first two fundraising quarters, the Clinton campaign predicted Obama's campaign will beat them by over $10 million.

Clinton Camp Says They Have 'Maxed Out' Supporters
"They have an advantage," the Clinton aide told ABC News about Obama's campaign. "For us, the summer is slow, because we've maxed out far more of our donors than they have."

On Monday the Obama campaign sent an email to supporters saying they have received over 472,000 individual donations from over 333,000 different people over the course of the campaign -- and asked supporters to reach into their wallet one more time.

1. Oh nonsense. She's going to outraise him
this quarter.

Then watch as the INEVITABILITY theme gets going, because they knew all along.

2. The old "lowering the expections" trick.
I predict he will outraise her, but not by as much as $10 mill.

3. I suspect that he will outraise her by more than $10m
There is no benefit to her in claiming that it will be $10m if it isn't. If he out raises her by $1 it's an embarrassment to the Clinton machine. Obama "only" out raising her by $8m or $6m or $2m wouldn't really lessen the blow any.

Obama will continue to out raise her because while people will happily vote for her ... she doesn't excite them.

There is no "cult of Hillary" out there.

4. Ask Howard Dean if winning fundraising battles wins elections...
In the end it matters very little. You basically only need to raise enough to get your message out.
