Kucinich: SCHIP Bill Fails To Provide Health Coverage For Legal Immigrant Children
The Flag of the United States of America
Washington, Sep 25 - Congressman Dennis Kucinich (D-OH), issued the following statement after voting against the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) conference report today:
“I cannot support legislation which extends health coverage to some children while openly denying it to other children,” Kucinich said. “This legislation is woefully inadequate: and I will not support it.
“Legal immigrant children deserve the same quality health care as other children receive. It is Congress’ responsibility to address the main difficulties that prevent legal immigrant children from gaining access to health care. Today, we did exactly the opposite.
“HR 676 guarantees full health care coverage for all children. When considering a universal health care proposal, HR 676, the Medicare for All bill, is the only health care plan that addresses three important issues: quality, accessibility, and cost. HR 676 stands alone in an increasingly crowded field of efforts to provide health care coverage to all,” Kucinich said.
Kucinich voted for the original House-passed version of the bill because it contained language to grant health coverage for legal immigrant children. However, in today’s bill, this language was omitted.

EXACTLY -- HR676 is the solution to all of this. This bill will be vetoed and the dems will fail to override that veto in the House -- again.

15. Why on earth is this person so popular with Democrats? |
|
Edited on Wed Sep-26-07 02:18 PM by PurityOfEssence
I can only think of five reasons:
Name and History: Revenge motivates certain Dems who want to rub the reactionaries' noses in what they did with the persecution of Bill Clinton in the 90s. (This is childish, stupid and dangerous.)
Gender: Much as many will deny it 'til the bulls come home, it's a desire for a woman (virtually ANY woman) to become president.
Lack of Awareness: She has name recognition and the rest really don't. Couple this with the hatred the right has spewed about her for the last 17 years, and many presume she must be good if they hate her.
Ego: They've identified her as "their candidate", and like most people, they'd rather have their fingernails pulled out while people laugh at their genitals in public than ever admit they might be wrong. This, coupled with the pathetic need to be on the winning team is responsible for much of humanity's historical idiocies.
"Courage": They've bought the bullshit that she's the steadfast fighter against the right, and being lily-livers themselves, are all googly-eyed at the concept of a tough and resolute heroine. It's like the AV guy worshiping the Captain of the Football team: wimprapture of thuggery.
Did I miss something? She's the most bellicose of the bunch. She's the most conservative of the bunch. She's got the worst trade policy. She's got the worst work visa policy. What's to like?

If your OBAMA was so hot why didn't he show up to vote. He was going after both sides. Which ever one came out on top....that would be the one he choose. Other wise he would have voted. And until you read the bill (which had the war part removed) how can you tell what's going on. Psychic perhaps.

I really believe that to be true now. With Hillary failing to commit to full troop withdrawal by the end of her first term http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x1890487 combined with the fact that Junior is coaching her on keeping the war going, I don't see any other viable way to look at this.

|
Edited on Wed Sep-26-07 03:14 PM by AtomicKitten
Did you see Olbermann yesterday? There is something about the focus being on Hillary being coached by Junior to "not box yourself in by committing to withdrawal," and unfortunately that news tidbit was issued concomitantly with Hillary declining to commit to full troop pull-out by the end of her first term.
Perhaps it is a constellation of news items that together make some, including me (and Olbermann), nervous.
