Edwards needs to bitch about Obama tonight
Hillary voted for the Iran thing. Obama chickened out AGAIN just like on MoveOn and didn't vote for or against. Once again. Same thing as McCain.

He needs to point out that Obama is ducking the most important issues because he is unwilling to take a stand and is that who we want in our leader. Do we want more political calculation?

4. But..But.. someone above posted he had the stomach flu!
Since you guys haven't gotten your stories straight, can I assume Obama hasn't released his statement yet?

5. But, but, but, care to explain Hillary's vote? Once was not enough for her?
Edited on Wed Sep-26-07 05:21 PM by Mass
Go ask the person who posted that her sources.. I got that from his website and posted it in your thread this morning. Btw, this somebody is not an Obama supporter.

Now, may be he got the flu in NH, but he was definitively in NH this morning, and, as the source seems to be Chris Matthews, we all know how reliable it is,

6. Apparently I've been wrong about Obama this whole time!
When I said that we don't know how he would have voted, had he been in the senate during IWR, today I was proven wrong, because we now know he wouldn't have shown up. It WAS controversial, after all.

I guess it is not that easy to find.

8. It's very simple
Edited on Wed Sep-26-07 05:26 PM by Lirwin2
By voting yes on this NON-BINDING resolution, she was able to further her image as being strong on national security, without there being any nasty consequences. Her vote is purely symbolic, and it gains her plenty of support from independents (the people who will determine who wins in 2008). It's called political pragmatism, and it's the reason she's in first.

9. That reassures me. I thought she was wrong. She just plays with
our security while pandering. She is telling Bush that he should be tough with Iran. I do not think he needed the encouragements,

10. Shes not telling Bush anything
It's non-binding. It does nothing. It's symbolic. The president doesn't even have to sign it. She comes off as strong, Obama comes off as someone who is too afraid to make even a symbolic statement that can be percieved controversial.

16. Here's what I think:
I think that Hillary is running a very, very pragmatic campaign. The haters see that as one of her faults, I see that as one of her attributes, because it means it will keep the Repigs out of the white house in 2008. But please, continue to underestimate her. We all know how effective underestimating the Clintons can be

30. So Obama should have dropped everything to run down to DC for a meaningless vote?
BTW, I missed the secret signal that Hillary didn't really mean her vote. Care to share it with the rest of us?

15. So, with Hillary, it's all about "image" and "symbolism"...
per usual.

Had enough of that yet?

17. Ahh, I see your problem
You don't see image as important, which is why your candidate doesn't seem to care about his no-show reputation.

19. Oooh, just like with the IWR vote
She just wanted to look strong on national security. And just like when she said we needed to 'stay the course' in Iraq in Nov 2003. And like her refusal to commit to a specific strategy to end the war. Or to not use nukes on civilians. Yeah, it's all just 'symbolic' to gain support from independents. :eyes:

3. Why?!
bitch about Hillary! Hillary voted FOR this abomination. Obama had the flu, is what I heard. Hopefully he will make it to vote against the bill. Missing a vote that wasn't even close is one thing. Voting FOR the damn thing is inexcusable.

20. That is just plain absurd, Edwards isn't in a race for second place
duh. Attacking is always very dangerous for a candidate for many reasons which should be self evident to anyone with a few brain cells to rub together. If Edwards were running at 2% then it might be a good call, but Edwards is running a good enough race that at this stage he can only attack Clinton.

23. Can't
do much against Obama. Obama was against IWR while Edwards more than signed on. The "have we learned nothing? I was wrong" argument has to be directed against Clinton. It has to be masterful considering and totally wasted on Obama.

The other dilemma is that Edwards has been brought in line with the propaganda justification for singling Iran out as an imminent crisis. Backtrack on that and Israel? he emphasizes diplomacy as does Obama. He is partially co-opted on the Iranian "crisis" being legitimate, which Hillary can not easily point out without possibly damaging herself.

If this comes up in the debate don't expect much dissatisfaction. It is a Democratic Party, recently restuffed, bed of thorns. Thanks pragmatic, idiot Dems.

On the other hand, Edwards to do anything must break out of this Democratic parallel universe where Bush's fortunes and hers go sweetly hand in hand while the world burns. He must, without intending to win our little DU world of ballots, become more like us, and Kucinich.

Stealth and pragmatism are the disastrous comfortable answer to media suppression and propaganda and Bush crimeland, no matter how hard it is to fight them head on.

25. Like Edwards would have voted no---he voted for the IWR
you must think people reading this don't pay attention.
Where's his statement condemning the vote?
Where's my candidates statement?
What about St. Dennis ?
Bill the redeemer?

This is starting to piss me off. I'm pissed Obama skipped that vote. I'm pissed every Dem candidate is caving every time I turn around.

26. It's a solvable conflict. Here's what they should do -- the candidates,
I mean.

They should rent out a small room at a local library and watch TOOTSIE with Dustin Hoffman and Jessica Lange.

It's a great film, and more to the point, they'd all agree that it is a great film, and they'd have a pizza afterward and talk about what a good job the cast and writers did.

An elevation of the human side of politics, if you will.
