Where are the Hillary Clinton grassroots efforts?
I've seen grassroots efforts for Obama. I am very visible and vocal about that. There are sightings all over the net of what's going on outside.

I've seen grassroots efforts for Kucinich. Nice people, funny, engaging, honest and with golden hearts.

I've seen grassroots efforts for Biden. I was in Iowa and saw some people in the rain handing out literature at an intersection. It was spiritual in a tear-jerking democratic way.

I've seen grassroots efforts for Richardson. They love that man and would talk to you all day about his wonderful background.

I've seen grassroots efforts for Edwards. They really want him to be president and are dedicated to share and engage in civil conversation about the issues.

I've seen grassroots efforts for Gravel. It was someone who served in the first Gulf War who had a table with a couple stickers and things he printed out from the official website.

All are believers in the promise of democratic choices and usually out there on their own time and on their own dime.

The only Hillary Clinton "grassroots" table I've seen was a table that was stocked with Clinton merchandise from an outsourced corporate convention company with color-coordinated outfits (khaki pants and blue Hillary short-sleeved Polo shirts) at the Wisconsin Democratic Party convention. I think they were told to whiten their teeth and have fresh haircuts for the gig. I'm not kidding. It had a Stepford quality about it...an alternative scene from The Truman Show perhaps.

So all I ask is for anyone...anyone to tell me where the Clinton grassroots people are. Link me with unretouched photos of just your average enthusiastic fan at some public venue.

8. I'm not sure ...
That a cult of personality is a good thing.

Voters are fine. "Followers" and "fans" ... not so much. I'm not a big fan of throngs chanting and wearing the team colors at political events.

9. She's got the corporations.
She don't need no stinkin' grassroots. I've been on the 'Anyone but a Republican' bandwagon, not committing to any one Democrat over another. I finally realized today who I want to be President. John Edwards. I guess I'd better start doing some volunteer work.

12. Good question
This touches on something about a Hillary Clinton candidacy for President that really has me worried. Here in Kingsport, Tennessee (a town of about 45,000 or so), I've actually heard some Democrats and Liberals say that, if she gets the nomination, they won't vote for her. I don't know if they would change their minds or not as we moved closer to the election. But this sort of thing is very bothersome to me and I hope it's not typical of the rest of the nation that isn't part of large metropolitan areas......or perhaps the lack of a Hillary Clinton grass roots effort is a reflection of this problem. Senator Clinton must be able to unite the entire Democratic party if she is to overome the fact that her candidacy would certainly galvanize Republicans to turn out to vote against her no matter who the Republican candidate turned out to be. This would be disastrous.

26. Do you know what grassroots politics is?
It's support from people who don't wait for the official Cavalry to arrive. They do it on their own without being lazy or complacent. It is a sanctuary of democracy. Make fun of it if you want. Who gives a rat's...

28. Whiners? Do you care about political issues? Just here looking for sports scores?
I get it now.

People who are passionate about a candidate or issue enough to take it to the street and face a crowd and back up their passion with answers and possibly getting others involved...are "whiners"...

Hey, thanks for playing. Please don't respond to this...I won't see your response anyway.

I've started a Students for Hillary organization at my university (we have a table on campus and everything), and I know that there are similar organizations at other colleges across the country.

24. Well, I don't really have any specific anecdotes at this point
the organization is still getting up and running, since the school year just started a few weeks ago, but I can tell you that there's a lot more Hillary support among young people than even I had expected. I think Obama is doing better among younger people in general because his campaign has been much more effective at targeting them. There are a lot of young Hillary supporters out there, they just have to be reached out to.

Even though I support another candidate, I appreciate people who do more for their candidate than just stay away from the action. Best of luck with it.

33. I see them all the time here in Nevada
Edited on Thu Sep-27-07 05:09 AM by NobleCynic
And I'm more of an Edwards or Obama guy. But the people for Hillary here in Nevada are mostly party regulars, whereas the you see a lot more new faces in other campaigns. For example, the chair for her campaign in northern Nevada is the former county chair who resigned to take the job.

As far as her support, I can tell you first hand a lot of it is coming from the teaching community. A disproportionate amount is of her support is female but that is to be expected with, one, a Democratic base, and two, a female candidate. Especially within the teaching community where 75% of the workforce is female but only 25% of the administrators are also female, there is a strong desire to see a woman in charge for a change.
