I'll say this for Hillary,
her facial expressions toward Fat Timmy and Chris Wallace, to name a few, contain the exact right amount of scorn and amusement. I am not a huge Clinton fan, but I love the way she handles the RW shills in the corporate media. This is not a minor consideration in whom we choose to do battle with both the Republicans and their flacks in the media.

1. Well - she's going to have to
answers some questions if she is to do battle with any Repuke:

In a way, she reminded us of one of those Dean Smith teams playing "four corners" or "stall ball" -- by playing it extremely safe. This is what a front-runner does: protects a lead. But if she were being judged on actually answering the questions she was asked, she'd get the lowest marks among those on the stage. To borrow another sports analogy, Clinton punted on the questions regarding Social Security, her war authorization vote (she talked about health care, but not the war vote when Russert brought up both), and the Clinton Library donors. (BTW, how soon before the Clinton library makes the decision that they'll have to do full disclosure on its donors. Won't it be better for Clinton to deal with this in '07 than '08?)

4. There were two questions I thought she answered better than anyone
the one on the "sanctuary cities," in which she explained in detail why local law enforcment should not be involved in immigration enforcement. No one else did that, and she ended up looking more knowledgeable (and in the bargain, tough on crime--the criminal kind, not the fake immigration kind).

The other one she did well on was the hypo on whether Israel would be justified in striking Iran if it felt threatened. She took total charge of Timmeh and wouldn't let him get away with his badgering, ending by saying: "It's not a question of "feeeling" threatened; there has to be evidence." One may think what one may about the implications of her stance on Israel/Iran/nukes--but on pure debate technique, she beat back the devil there.

One thing not mentioned: did she have a spy to know the color of MSNBC's backdrop? Her orange suit matched perfectly. Style rating: 9. That was a nice outfit, and much better than that pinky thing she wore a while back.

Bullshit, If the illegals are afraid to use the police it makes America less appealing to them. ignoring existing law is what the illegals are doing. Hillary wants to be complicit.
and insofar as the Israel question she would just get us deeper in to the middle east problems. Granted Israel is a stalwart ally so that should give us some influence to get Israel to be humanistic and attempt to be peaceful to their neighbors.

Biden would enforce existing law.

10. You didn't understand the answer
The point is that police cannot solve crimes if people are afraid to come forward with leads in the community because they fear deportation. And that is why immigration enforcement should rest on the shoulders of federal authorities. This had nothing to do with making America less appealing to them. It has to do with police being effective in stopping and solving crimes in their localities.

Federal law actually prohibits local police from enforcing civil immigration law (only criminal)--the line between these two has become murky.

I don't know what you're saying about Biden: on immigration, he said the same thing as Clinton about it being federal law enforcement responsibility for immigration.

really good -- and she has the right amount of skepticism when it comes to the questioners.

she has my very grudging respect.

7. It's hard to defend Russert but in this case....
The questions Hilary deflected were not inconsequewntial ones or "gotcha" ones.

Russert asked her how she would handle specific situations that may well arise, bith in terms of internationsl ones and on Social Security.

The American people deserve to know what position a candidate would take if, say, Israel decides to take an extremely aggressive action that could trigger WW3 in the Middle East.

The American people also deserve to know how a candidate intends to handle the problems with Social Security. Hilary's crap abouit forming a "commission" and "I won;t reveal by negotiating position now" was just pure crap. More of the same old same old that has kept us mired in problems.
