HANOVER, N.H. (AP) -- The three leading Democratic presidential hopefuls conceded Wednesday night they could not guarantee that all U.S. combat troops would be gone from Iraq by 2013, the end of the next president's first term in office.

"I think it's hard to project four years from now," said Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois in the opening moments of a campaign debate in the nation's first primary state.

"It is very difficult to know what we're going to be inheriting," added Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York.

"I cannot make that commitment," said former Sen. John Edwards of North Carolina.

Sen. Christopher Dodd of Connecticut and New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson provided the assurances the others would not.

Misleading headline. Not all the Dems, just the "electable" ones.

Somebody help me with tihs.

1. Totally misleading - The question was NOT about combat troops.
It was about troops. AP's reporting, so no surprise, though.

3. To me this question is stupid.
The real question should be: Do you plan to keep an embassy and do you plan to occupy permanent bases? Either one and you must have troops there.

Someone remind me why we are still in South Korea and Germany.

4. You certainly could have an embassy here in Germany without
having your troops here...

Lots of others do, you know?

5. The question about South Korea and Germany was not
suggesting they were there to protect the embassy. It was just a reminder that we are in both places with a very large footprint.
