Rochester, NY stands to lose 50% of our education funding to Republican 'creative accounting'
Governor (Spitzer) Troubled By Brooks' Budget Plan

Spitzer:

"How I will determine to fund education next year certainly will take into consideration whether those dollars have been used for the appropriate purpose," Governor Spitzer said in Rochester Thursday.

Spitzer says it's not a threat. But he says Monroe County is using education money to balance the budget. Spitzer says there will be consequences.

"(It) will weigh heavily upon me and will weigh heavily upon other school districts that will say, 'look, if you want to spend money on education, we want those dollars for education. Maggie Brooks isn't using it for education, so send us the money and we'll use it for the appropriate purpose,'" Spitzer said.

The issue is the county's decision to intercept sales tax money that normally goes to local school districts. Maggie Brooks says school districts are getting record increases this year any way.

50% to the tune of 29 million dollars.

It's time Maggie was shown the door.
