1. The race is basically tied in Iowa. It'll be all about turnout.

9. My take on the orgs - I live in Iowa
Hillary's seems to be a more traditional top down organization. Mostly in the bigger cities. Kind of an uninspired, workman like group.
Edwards' group is smaller, located in the bigger cities with lots of outreach to the smaller communities. Very dedicated and inspired. Great kids. Somewhat of a top-down model, less so than Hillary
Obama - they are everywhere. And each office has many staffers. They seem to be at everything. Lots of calls. Many other volunteers of all ages. They work very well with local groups having discussion groups, coffees etc. Very inspired and dedicated groups. Great kids. Kind of a bottom up, grassroots model

I currently support Edwards, but i do love the way Obama has set up his staffing. We have met many of the (mostly) young staffers. They know each other and get along. All know that we have a common enemy and those I have asked promise to support whoever the nominee is.

3. I saw a local poll for Iowa
When it gets down to those likely to show up at the caucus, Edwards numbers go up.

5. Edwards seems to be the favorite of most Iowans on this board
and the Iowans on this board I know of all are likely caucus attendees. :hi:

10. Why isn't Biden doing better?
He comes across as a "red-state kind of guy" (although he has a fairly progressive voting record). I would think that Iowans would be thinking a bit about electability combined with experience.

13. I remember him completely dissing that woman
who asked a question at the Union debate. I forget her question, but it was something like "my husband's on disablity and..", and he answered something like "that's too bad", but went on to talk about something completely different. Maybe it stuck.

15. That's not quite what happened
The debate was in Chicago. She was a miner's widow and asked about mine safety. He screwed up by not giving her the time she deserved so he could talk about Pakistan. http://www.crooksandliars.com/2007/08/08/bidens-macaca-moment/

Bad call on his part, but I haven't heard that being the reason he isn't doing better out here.

14. I'd say his biggest obstacle is $$$
He has loyalty from his past race here and he seems to have several people who like him as their 2nd choice. But he doesn't have the money or 'rock star' power that the big three have. Dodd is in the same boat, people who see him like him but he doesn't have the money to compete with Clinton/Edwards/Obama

8. his supporters had better not be home on break come caucus day
that's part of the problem of having 18-24 year old supporters. They go home for semester break and you can't vote abentee in a caucus. x(

11. If the caucus is on Jan. 14, won't most of the students be back?
We were discussing that the other day. Most schools start on the 15th, so I would think they would be back.
