The biggest concern on health care is not being addressed |
|
Hilary, Obama & Edwards all have health care ideas that just seem to put more money into the hands of the corporations. They may tell you otherwise but none of them propose getting rid of insurance companies, nationalizing health care & giving everyone a fair chance at getting the care they need.
The real problem is not how many people are not insured. It is how many can actually afford health care. Companies are cutting back on the costs & facing higher costs. So employees are having to pay more out of their own pockets. Costs are rising very fast. Insurance companies rely on huge profits to satisfy their shareholders. Medical establishments find new ways to increase the final bill. Specialists charge too much. Medication prices are too high. Companies wanting to produce generics are being bought off by the major drug companies to hold off on putting a generic out. In some cases the company making the original medication is actually making the generic under another company name. We learned through Michel Moore & others that we as a nation spend the most money & the highest percentage of GDP on health care. We are ranked 38 on the list of countries with the best health care system.
It will very difficult to create national health care. Doctors will get paid less but still be in high earner bracket. Doctors will be required to do more because their staff will be reduced. But they will not have to worry about things like billing & bill collection. They won't leave the US to seek jobs elsewhere because most other rich countries have nationalized health care systems. Health insurance companies will need to disband. I think those workers should be given the first jobs in the new administrative branch. We will owe health insurance companies nothing because they really own nothing the federal government will need. Most hospitals will be nationalized. For that the Federal government will need to buy them out. Companies can still make the same contribution they made for their employees health care in the form of a tax to subsidize the program. Taxes will increase for the individual but I believe it will be less than what most of us currently pay in health care costs. No one will need to make profits to appease their shareholders so the costs of running this thing will be much lower even when the 46 million un-insured are accounted for. It will not be perfect. But it will be a whole lot better than what we have now. I believe we could quickly move to the number one spot on the best health care system. Drug companies will have price controls on what they can charge.
The problem with this idea: The right wing nuts will be shitting all over themselves saying we have become communists. That is the only reason we will not see a national health care system before we reach breaking point in this country. By then I think it will be too late to rescue the system.
