Hasn't Edwards been saying that Congress should get us out of Iraq
calling for legislation and such?

Is he also one of the people who, at the debate recently, said that we wouldn't be out til 2013?

It could be the latter mind you. I tend to get my news "drive by" style, and I work second shift so I haven't seen the debates.

But I'm looking at threads talking about he frontrunners saying they wouldn't have us out of Iraq til the end of their terms, and also remembering that there have been threads about Edwards telling Congress that they should get us out of Iraq.

Or am I confusing a few things in my old age?

1. I'm pretty sure Edwards means withdrawing combat troops when he was speaking to Congress.
Although, I can't confirm this, that's just the impression I've gotten. In the debate the other night, I believe he said he'd have all combat troops withdrawn within a year (9 months, i think he said). But he also said he'd want to keep some troops there to defend the embassy and other non-combatant roles. Don't quote me on this, because i'm not 100% on anything, really.

6. Which rather reminds me of Germany after WWII
we're still there, after all.

Okay, thanks. Just needed a clarification.

2. What the front runners said wasn't that troops wouldn't be out
They said they couldn't say with absolute certainty that they would be out, but each of them has a plan to get them out, starting as soon as they get sworn into office.

Subtle difference I know, but there is a difference.

7. It seems that isn't good enough for some here
It's not "out now". I was getting the impression from reading other threads that all progressives should be up in arms over what are front runners are saying. Seems it's more complex than that.

Thanks for answering.

9. Yeah, it's definitely not the major issue some are making it in to.
Making a pledge to have all the troops out by a certain date is irresponsible, as who knows what could occur to prevent that? I think they all have sufficient withdrawal plans to get troops out as safe as possible in a short amount of time.

11. Indeed, some are saying that all true Progressives are for "out now"
and I guess by implication if you're not for "out now" you're not a true progressive.

Even notice how the word "now" loses it's meaning the more you say it? I mean, now is, well, now. Right now. Right this very minute. Like someone stamping their foot.

15. No you're not confused- you're just not hearing the backstory
The backstory is things are so fucked up there that it "may" take that long to get everybody out. We don't know. BushCo hasn't told us the real situation. It could be worse than our wildest estimates. So we can't necessarily say how long it would take to get the F out of there.
