Black Caucus Welcomes Hillary
WASHINGTON -- A relaxed and confident Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, seeking to tighten her grip on her sizeable share of the prospective black vote, spoke on a range of issues before a receptive audience Friday at the annual legislative conference of the Congressional Black Caucus.

"These are problems we have to face up to," Clinton said.

Several individuals praised the Democratic presidential hopeful for her willingness to address issues beyond a narrow civil rights agenda, after she spoke in favor of stem cell research, government reform, environmental cleanup and a determination to end American "cowboy diplomacy," while also addressing voting rights, juvenile justice, job discrimination and other topics more routinely linked with black Americans.

"She spoke beyond just issues of race, and understands that all issues affect African-Americans," said Al Williams, chairman of the Georgia Legislative Caucus. "While we're concerned about the "Jena Six," we're also concerned about the price of gasoline at the pump."

Florida congressman Kendrick Meek said Clinton has done well in winning endorsements from a host of Congressional Black Caucus members despite competition from Sen. Barack Obama, who is vying to become the nation's first black president.

12. Maybe she'll change her mind once president
If she thinks that portraying herself as pro-war is politically advantageous then she'll do it. But you basically have to take everything that a politician like herself says with a grain of salt.

39. That in no way means she's running a "plantation"
The nine members supporting her are doing so voluntarily.

And I happen to like Edwards and Obama as much as I like Hillary --I don't know whom I'm voting for in the primary.

22. There's much more to it than pandering
It's a power cabal.

She gets the vote - they get the status quo.

They get a seat at the table - while she gets dinner.

Not hard to figure out.

Talk about pandering - and a racist statement as well.

Let's get our heads on straight here.

Who really believes HRC is personally strong?

Gluttony for power regardless of the cost is not a mark of strength.

11. Hillary Clinton should have done just like the Repub front runners at last night's debate.
Edited on Fri Sep-28-07 09:40 PM by FlaxieB
Don't show up to the Congressional Black Caucus conference. Don't write checks your body can't cash. Her persistent pandering to Black Americans trying to convince that she "understands" the plight of Black americans is preposterous. If she understands the issues of Black americans, why hasn't she done anything for Blacks up to this point? All of a sudden she's concerned and wants to help? For the Black americans who so desperately cling so tightly to the glory days of Bill Clinton, hoping that Hillary as Prez will bring the 90's into the forefront will be sadly disappointed. Just think of this glory day: Bill signed NAFTA into law. Where are the jobs? Not here.

This term for the next Prez is all about the war in Iraq and the war on terror, period. All the $$$ needed for this country goes to Iraq. Every dissolved social program, every non-existent health benefit, so on and so on goes to Iraq and will affect everything that the next Prez does. Hillary already stated that he will continue combat operations. Hence, the war will continue, systematically draining american treasure for years to come. Yes, she can "understand" the issues of Blacks but what will she do if elected? Since she will continue the war, the $$$ will continues to flow. There is no money alloted for social programs and Congress and the Senate will not get approval (the Repubs hate her and Bill, they will block legislation and not play ball). Stopping the war will free up billions, but she has no intention of doing that. I guess she will raise taxes to get the needed "social" funds.

I understand that she has to say those things to garner support and get elected, but Black americans have been hearing this bullshit from panderers for decades. She is just the latest version of the white snake. The Congressional Black Caucus needs to wake up and smell the stale coffee. As Hillary said at a prior debate, "Don't let then know what you're really thinking". It's sad she's pushing this sackful of empty bullshit promises.

19. What is she going to do. Write a poem? Oh, I'm so scared.
She is one american with one vote, just like you and me, She holds no power to change the way people feel or think in this national election. She can only voice her opinion. She may be your heroine but that's all she is. She holds no influence here. Plus having lived thought the Civil Rights era you would have thought that she would have learned about empty promises and rhetoric by now. Being rich and famous does not give you God given common sense. Think for yourself, stop letting others think for you. You need to understand that for your own benefit

32. Thanks. Please read.
Seriously, these are different times. We have a war that is bleeding us dry. Programs and policy for all americans have been completely shut off by the Bush administration to continue and maintain this disaster. Now he wants 200 Billion? Why has the cost gone up so much? I thought that after the Peterus report and the downsizing of combat troops (who are suppose to come home, I'll believe it when I see it) the costs should go down. But it's that's hidden agenda that the new Perez will not see until he/she sits in that seat. Tough choices will have to be made and the Iraqis are not going to vanish. We're stuck with them and I just don't see progress for americans citizens in this country. It's rob Peter to pay Paul. You can make campaign promises and instill hope, but what about reality? What do you think?

33. I don't disagree with you,
but I don't see a big difference in the way Obama or Clinton would handle the problem. I've looked at her record, and despite all the bashing being done here, it's pretty damned liberal. I'm not even supporting her at this point, but I'd like to see a level playing field. FWIW, her IWR vote will probably sway me towards Obama.

34. I agree. Whoever gets elected has a tough row to hoe.
and this will probably be the toughest administration since LBJ and the Vietnam war. All eyes will be on this Prez, doing what needs to be done to stop this war and give the Iraqis their nation back. I just don't want americans to be "surprised" when these promises are not met and the real priorities are being serviced, the Iraq war. I can see the american outrage now with whomever is in office: Prez he/she lied to us! deceived us! Broken promises etc. And it won't bode well being the first woman or the first African American. You already know the Repubs don't give a damn.

Americans needs to understand and admit that this war is that 800 pound gorilla in the room and it's getting heavier every day. Teamwork, experience and sacrifice will be needed to resolve this, Whether it Clinton or Obama. I'm pulling for him. All I am saying to the candidates, be honest and up front. These times are not normal. I am not a Mike Gavel fan but he did say one thing that's true, Nothing gets done for Americans until we stop this war!

Common sense is a basic instinct. You don't need a title for that. If you do need it, you're an educated idiot. Plus, it seems that if you need to scour the web to find a "link" to think or to justify an opinion, which is not truly your own, it proves my point. about it.
