Poll question: Could fans of Edwards and Obama check in for a poll?
I'm curious. And, if you feel like it, briefly tell us what sold you.
Thanks!

1. Edwards, I think he is more pro-consumer
and would work harder to get and keep manufacturing jobs here. And I also think he's the most likely to hold corporations to an accountability standard.

2. Just got done marching in a homecoming parade for Edwards.
What sold me is that of all the candidates, he strikes me as the one most willing and able to enact bold, badly needed change at a time when the people are with us.

3. When Edwards took matching funds...
I became sold on Obama. I'm not wasting a primary vote on someone who will not be able to hack it in the general election.

4. I do like Obama, but I feel he has done some stumbling of late... and that may show...
his lack of experience... Where-as Edwards has the campaign and Senate experience.. I honestly think that either of these two would make fantastic Presidents.. What a card that would be actually... with either being Pres. and the other VP... For the record and I guess that I am savvy enough to know that he is probably not electable.. but I really, really do like Dennis Kucinich as well...

5. Edwards sold me by the fact that he cares about the union workers and always has,
that he can admit he made a mistake and learn from it, that he has an incredible reputation among his peers and has proven he can take in insurance companies and corporations and win. I like the fact that he doesn't take the corporate lobbyists money. And that in the many times I have met him he has not been the leat bit different from his public persona. He is never condesending to anyone and treats all people, no matter how much they contribute with equal courtesy. And last but not least, he is married to Elizabeth and seems to have a rteal and devoted partnership. I respect that. And I also factor into the equation tha he beats the repugs by the widest margin. .

he is real. He was against the war when it wasn't fashionable to be. I like what he has to say, and I trust him.

11. Obama represents everything good a president should be. Strength, intellect, character
when I've read about the great people in history they all have common traits. Not only a vision for america, but, deep down intergrity, authenticity, a great intellect, character and quiet strength, a respect for the people and the ideas of America. An understand and abiding love of the constitution.
On top of it, Obama is a powerful speaker with a great personality and humor.

12. Edwards-he did better in the debate the other night
However, Obama excites young people in an amazing way. But he was fading in the last debate. He needs to come out stronger. They are both great choices-leaning Edwards for now.

15. Edwards
I like Obama, but Edwards is my pick. Besides having what I think is the best healthcare plan among the candidates, Edwards is staunchly pro-union, anti-Walmart, and when he's asked questions, he doesn't answer glibly but carefully considers the individual questions.

16. Edward but Obama is a close second. I don't think Hillary can win a General Election and
Edwards took it to Hillary in the last debate.

17. Edwards.
My ideal ticket, actually, would be Edwards-Obama in 2008 and 2012, to give Obama any "experience" people say he is lacking, then Obama-whoever in 2016 and 2020.

18. Edwards
JRE's populist message jives with my own ideals.
Plus, he is more attractive to potential cross-over voters in red states, i.e. he's more electable.

20. Edwards!
I support Edwards because he is an ardent union supporter. He believes that addressing poverty is a MORAL issue. His views on education, Iraq, health care, diplomacy, and rural America.

Senator Edwards inspires me to believe that better days are ahead for America!

21. Obama. He spoke out AGAINST the IWR while Edwards was cheering it on.
Edwards seems like a phony. Even his latest lie IMO saying he's taking public funding as a MORAL issue when back in Feb. he said he would not go for public funding.

22. Obama - his consistent record of progressive advocacy
whether it was being a community organizer, working in the Illinois Senate, or the US Senate, Obama has been extremely consistent in his advocacy for Progressive policies. He's also shown an ability to reach across the aisle in order to get those Progressive policies put into action. He's all about getting results, not providing cheap rhetoric for the partisans.

Many of the other candidates, including Edwards, don't have such a consistent record. They've shifted to the left recently after having a moderate record previously (perhaps they just happen to have seen the light or perhaps they've done it to cynically put themselves in better position to win the primary). They seem more intent on saying whatever it takes to win votes rather than putting forth a sensible set of policies to help move this country back on the right track.

While I will support whoever the nominee is, I can't see myself supporting anyone other than Obama for that nomination.

23. Edwards: he first crossed my radar when he was hammering on Ashcroft
Edited on Fri Sep-28-07 10:25 PM by PurityOfEssence
in the confirmation hearings. I also really liked his early stump speech about how Junior was a "phony", strutting around that "ranch" of his "with that big old belt buckle on", and how the conservatives were systematically shifting taxation from wealth to workers' salaries. The economic message struck me like a blast of fresh air, and his relaxed yet organized and poised manner struck me as true statesmanship and a gift of gab that would allow a broad range of people to feel they could work with him.

The Patriot Act vote bothered me, but when he started speeches by volunteering that people weren't going to like that vote but that he made it because he felt certain things (specifically the wiretapping of an individual, rather than a phone number) were necessary due to changing technology, I admired his candor. Later, he stood by the Patriot Act vote, but repudiated the way Ashcroft was implementing it, and I thought he did this very well: not letting himself off the hook, still standing by support for various provisions, and lambasting the Administration. The IWR vote shook me, but I felt that he really bought the bullshit.

From that point on, I felt he handled himself very gentlemanly, even when confronting Clark in print about the lie about the tax-cut votes.

These feelings still stand: I trust the man and truly believe he wants what's best for all, especially workers and the poor.

His stance on keeping religion out of politics makes my wicked little heathen heart sing, and his adamant dismissal of nuclear power (which is not new for him) reaffirms my belief in the man's inherent sense and decency.

He has a deep respect for people at large and individually, and he works his ass off and always has.

Think of the traits one needs in a president: statesmanship, intelligence, morality, approachability, industriousness, confidence, curiosity, charisma and common sense are some of the big ones for what we must not forget is, most importantly, a JOB; he's definitely got the chops for it.

24. I like Edwards' emphasis on working people
and his opposition to corporate power. I liked his response to Hillary Clinton in Wednesday's debate concerning her vote on Lieberman/Kyl, which was that he had learned his lesson about the IWR vote, but she hadn't.

25. Gobama.
It's a simple process of elimination. IWR and all the poo surrounding it is the deal-breaker for me. Always has been, always will be.

I prefer Al Gore over all by about 14 miles. Sigh.

27. Edwards matches...
...up best against all the Repugs in the race. He has also shown that he can evovle in his positions, and that evolution has gone in the progressive direction(I guess if it went the other way it would be devolution). He also seems to be less beholden to the corpofascist complex that rules our country than HRC and BO.
