"Giuliani said Friday that he believed he had a 50-50 chance of winning the popular vote in California and wouldn't mind leaving California's current electoral system intact."

Rudy Giuliani (or any Republican) winning CA?....Excuse me, for a second..

2. Bush won California in 1988 over Dukakis
And Reagan carried California by large margins in 1980 and 1984.

5. That was before red states and blue states
Reagan and Bush ran in the brief period where the Republicans reaped all of the benefits from polarizing the country yet no backlash had emerged yet. 1992 made California and the Northeast (save New Hampshire which has just come over recently) blue states and every election since has solidified that.

The Last Two Mayors Of NY Were Republican
but almost any Dem will carry New York by a six or seven to one margin...

No state should be taken for granted but Cali is one of the bluer states in this nation...

And I don't think people of color in Cali will embrace a mayor who wasn't outraged when his police stuck a plunger up a black guy's ass and put forty one shots in another black guy who was going for his wallet...

3. He's absolutely right.
He either will. . .

or he won't.

That's his 50/50 chance. Sort of like me having a 50/50 chance of hitting the lottery tonight.

15. Sure, they're conservative areas, I have a
friend who lives in OC, (very conservative) but at least he & his wife vote Democratic!......But overall, the blue areas LA county, SF, etc. will go overwelmingly Democratic which should be more than enough to carry the state for the Democratic nominee...

16. lol -- no -- no they're not.
many dems and indies in this state are sometimes persuaded to vote republick party -- that's what you don't understand -- reagan -- wilson and ahnuld are simply not the anomalies you think they are.

17. I think they were anomalies, besides, Arnold governs
like a Democrat, if he were too conservative, Phil Angelides would be the governor now.....Phil didn't exactly run the best campaign either....

Take a look at the below, (it's the OPPOSITE of what were use to, here, Democrats=Red, & Reopublicans=Blue)....Then look at last couple elections, Democrat has won CA. by > 10%....And if you look at it county by county in CA, the ones where all the people live are voting Democratic......LA/Long Beach/SFV is one big area, & that alone can (almost) be enough to keep the state going to the Democrat...

19. Governors are different, Wyoming has a Democratic Governor
Often a state will vote in a Governor of the opposite party that they lean toward because they are fed up with the establishment of the dominant party.

As far as Reagan goes, that was in the era before red states and blue states.

I'm not saying we should take California for granted, it was a bit closer than I would have preferred last time, but I'm not too worried about losing it.

18. He has to win his nomination first, and that's by no means a certainty.
I believe California is going to be more of a Democratic stronghold than ever in 2008.
