I just received an e-mail from everybody's favorite, Rahm Emmanuel:
Hi,

I know it's Sunday so I don't want to take up much of your time. You know me, I like to speak frankly.

Here's the reality check: This election is far from in the bag. There are 60 Democrats sitting in seats that Bush carried in 2004 and there are eight Republicans sitting in Democratic seats. We have a lot of seats to protect and an historic opportunity to expand the playing field. The resources we have now will determine whether or not we win next November.

The FEC end of quarter deadline is MIDNIGHT TONIGHT and the DCCC is just $38,000 shy of its goal. House Dems are matching every gift until midnight tonight so please give what you can before this critical deadline.

On to Victory,

Rahm

I know how well loved he is here at DU so PLEASE don't get into a RE slamfest.

Here's my reason for posting this. Do you know what it means that the House Dems are matching every gift?

I understand that there's this deadline tonight that all the candidates are pushing for and I'm not sure what THAT means either.

As always, I turn to you, oh wise ones, to help me on my path.

1. That doesn't make sense
and no, Rahm can't be trusted. I would rather see Dems lose the majority than see him and his GOP corporate friends gain a stranglehold on Dems in Congress. Sorry, but this is serious business and Emmanuel needs to be stopped.

4. This sounds like such a wise saying -- but I have to admit I don't get it!
Aren't you sorry you tried to help the clueless?

5. All I meant was - get a veto proof majority (and a few extras would not hurt)

maybe win the executive branch.

Then start putting heavy pressure in the dino's.

Personally - no one sees the inside of my wallet until they talk about impeachment.

3. The individual candidates are each asking for contributions by Sept. 30th as
well (I'm on all their e-mail lists, trust me, they are). So the date DOES mean something to them. I just don't understand WHAT it means.

And my question about the matching contributions -- If I sent in $100 in support of Biden to the DCC and they matched it and sent $200 to Biden's campaign, I'd do it. Somehow I don't think that's the case. But I'm not sure where -- if anywhere -- their matching contributions GO.

I'm not knowledgeable enough at this point to agree or disagree with your stance on Emmanuel (although it seems to be shared by all of you who are more savvy than I so I tend to give it credence). What I'm looking for clarification on are my questions as stated above.

Just take Emmanuel out of the equation and it's the message I'm not understanding.

6. The significance of the date
September 30 is the end of the quarter. Everyone raising money has to report how much they've raised to the FEC over the course of the quarter, so there's always a push to get folks to donate around this time so the money shows up in the balance sheet for this quarter.

7. The more money you raise
the stronger your field of candidates looks. It makes it easier to raise more money the next quarter.
