Al Gore is not running because Hillary Clinton is too strong |
|
He only was going to run if he saw a weakness or vulnerability to exploit. But in the past 9 months, Hillary's primary poll numbers have gone up, her favoribility ratings have gone up, she is beating all republican candidates in general election polls which she wasn't doing 9 months ago.
Gore knows Hillary will win the nomination. That's why he's not running.

2. When did he say he wasn't running? |
|
Granted, I don't think he will, but I haven't heard him say he wasn't for sure yet. In fact, there have been a recent spate of op-eds raising the possibility again.

26. Gore's daughter said so in July |

Gore's daughter Kristen said that an '08 run by her father is not happening during a book signing event in July.

3. I still think he's running. |
|
If we get to the end of this month without him in the race, he probably isn't. But he still has time.

4. Jumping into the race takes a lot more than a speech here or there |
|
I know that in New York, you have to get signed petitions to get on the primary ballot, and by gosh you better follow each and every one of the arcane regulations or your petitions will get tossed. That means having an organized group of volunteers or the cash to hire some people to do that. Now, multiply that by 50/

7. You could be right, but besides that, I don't think he has the |
|
passion or stomach for it anymore.
If people think dragging him kicking and screaming will work, they are delusional

I don't think he will be kicking and screaming at all. First of all..he is waiting to hear if he won the NOBEL PRIZE. That's kind of a big deal, wouldn't you agree?....He's a little busy right now...( but will thereafter move swiftly into place)..Secondly, I don't think Hillary is as strong as any poll might even slightly suggest, Thirdly, I don't think that even if Hillary is as strong as some suggest that that would be any kind of deterrent for him at all.

9. Huh? Near as I can tell, he simply did not want to run. He has said |
|
he's content with what he's been doing. Why read anything else into it?

14. Hillary doesn't have to worry about winning a Nobel Peace prize first... |
|
... or the many other things that Gore's been doing that have lead to that likely happening in October.

If Gore stepped in, Hillary's support (shallow as it is) would dry up and blow away.
If you want to see why Gore's not running- read The Assault on Reason.

20. Well, if anyone can give Hillary a fascinating run for the money it would be Al... |
|
Seems to me he's doing a pretty good job without even announcing. As I've said many times, Gore's is the Ultimate Campaign ~ purely positive press on his own terms. Can't beat that!
But it's easy to imagine how difficult the decision must be for Gore and his family ~ to choose between living a very comfortable life doing meaningful work and running for president when the country so desperately needs a leader who can take us into a whole new era.

24. That's one possibility but absent a source, I'm inclined to think Gore will |
|
jump in if he feels he should jump in, and without regard to current polling.
His people are veterans on the campaign battlefield and know as well as anyone and better than most that polls fluctuate and circumstances change.
Senator Clinton enjoys a strong, first-place position right now.
But the real campaign for the nomination hasn't even begun. If HClinton wins in Iowa and New Hampshire, I feel she is almost certainly going to win the nomination.
But what if Senator Obama or Senator Edwards or Senator Biden wins in Iowa, and what if the same person or one of the others defeats her in New Hampshire?
That is equally conceivable.
Gore has policy reform on his mind, and public restoration of respect and dignity to the Oval Office. If he jumps in it will very possibly be on principle alone and not because Hillary Clinton is beating Romney in some poll.

25. I think Gore is very happy doing what he is doing; saving the planet! |
|
I've noticed Gore supporters calling into talk radio lately, are getting very nasty....calling him a traitor, and saying it is his duty to run, and crap like that!
It really gets me that people don't seem to recognize all the good work he does. I don't blame him a bit for not wanting to run for president, I'm surprised that Hillary would want to run either....but I am glad she is!
Running for president is a nasty business, and I commend all the candidates for their courage.....
