How many of you have an open Primary?
in california we have an "Modified Closed Primary System" which means to the best of my knowledge that democrats and "Decline to state" can vote in the democratic primary.

1. in NH we
can vote in the party which we are listed as, or if we are listed as "Independent"- we can declare a party and vote in that race. When we do that, we become whatever party we have declared- but as soon as we have cast our vote, we can change our party back to "Independent"-

Don't know the lingo- so not sure if it is modified or open.?

3. Wisconsin has an open primary
All the parties are on one ballot, but you can vote only on the section devoted to the one party you choose (otherwise the machine will spit the ballot back at you and you have to try again). You do not register by party, only as a voter. This does lead to, for example, Republicans who have no interesting races in their party voting on the Democratic side to try to influence our election.

4. Texas has open primaries
In fact, one cannot register as a Democrat (or any other party.) I would rather have closed primaries.

5. Here in Ohio
We declare our party. On primary day we go to the poll and ask for a dem, rep or issue ballot.
