Howard Kurtz on Reliable Sources this morning on CNN
Did anyone catch Reliable Sources today on CNN? I whooped with joy when his first story was if there was a double standard for the clintons. One that is almost totally a free pass and building up Hillary vs. everyone else.
and if the media is obsessed with the clintons and if the public is getting tired of it.
it was like Kurtz did a segment of how so many, myself included, have felt.
Hillary is touted as the nominee 4 months before the first vote is cast and how stupid it is. Hillary is given a free pass by the media and not one word of questioning of her is done. At the same time, everyone else is ignored while the media pursues their obsession with the clintons.
And finally, the fact that while Hillary is given a free pass, the other candidates are not and held to a different and unfair standard.
I wrote to CNN thanking them for finally having someone bring this up.

1. This show is a right-wing rag spewing the talking points faxed to them
every sunday by Cheney's office. They constantly attempt to defend republicans. Tim Russert was applauded, and last week I had to turn it off it was so blatantly republican. So, anything that is said on that show, is not fair and balanced by any stretch of the imagination.

Double standard for Clintons? Free Pass? That makes me Laugh. Where have you been the past 13 years? Every nook and crannie of their lives has been twisted and turned and redefined and lied about in an attempt to slam them. The vast right-wing conspiracy is real.

5. You expressed my feelings exactly
Kurtz is very right wing. I don't trust him.

I haven't decided whether I will vote for Hillary in the primary or not. But if she wins the nomination, I will definitely vote for her.

In my opinion, our worst Dem candidate is better than the best Repub candidate.

7. So if a right winger hates Hillary, you cheer him because you hate her
too, and screw the fact that he is doing it to undermine what is seen by many as the Dems' best chance to capture the WH? That leaves me rather speechless... And thanking CNN for that?! I guess I won't feel sorry for you when we get Romney or Giuliani as president. Small price to pay for having so much fun watching the press ridiculing Hillary, "Gore-ing" her, isn't it? Well, enjoy -- but please spare us the details.

8. if it was the truth, and I doubt it, then it would be the first time Kurtz
ever said anything that was not a right-wing talking point. And, again, I find it hard to believe that after the decade of constant attacks, the press is being soft on Clinton.

6. Outside Hillary, how many of the other candidates have had their underwear drawer gone through?
Nah, she hasn't even been looked at at ALL.

The liberal media has given Hillary and her husband, who supposedly as a crooked penis, and her brother, Hugh Rodham (Gee, how do I know that name?), and her spirit guide, Eleanor Roosevelt, a COMPLETELY FREE PASS!!

Take this to the bank: If Howie Kurtz says it, it's a lie.

10. The sad thing is that the media is giving Hillary a free pass... NOW
but if she were to win the nomination they would let out the full barage of anti-Clinton hate to make sure she loses the general election. I hope Obama wins, they've already used their best ammo. He's inexperienced. Big whoop lets move on. In Clinton's case it is a much longer laundry list of attacks they are salivating over.

Free Pass. They have done it throughout this campaign. Yet they try to hold all the other candidates by a different standard. Voters have been saying this all the time. Here on DU and other Websites. Hillary has been getting a Free pass in the press. It is time they start holding her to the same standards as everyone else. Or better yet, give everyone a free pass. I know she is a Dem, however the Press giving anyone a Free pass is wrong. They have been pushing her down our throats for months. Not one vote has been cast. People are tired of it. They are supposed to be fair in the press. I for one do not want another FOX news network. It seems during this election cycle that is what we are getting from several news networks. Even if it is on the liberal side. All the media is supposed to do is report the news. NOT Slant the news toward one candidate.

Recently Bill had a news article pulled. If that article would have been about Biden Edwards or Obama the article would have been printed. Fair is Fair. If there is something the voters should know about print the damn thing and let the voters decide if the article is true. Let investigators report on it. You do not hide the truth from voters. That is what the Bush Administration did in 2000 and 2004. I should hope to God we are better than them.

14. Unfair? How so?
She is getting the same treatment that anyone else in her position would get. She's been around for almost 20 years, she's been involved in a heck of a lot of big time world events, and the media is treating her accordingly.

Do you think the media's treatment of Schwarzenegger's campaign in CA was unfair also? Treating the candidates fairly does not mean treating them all the same. They are not all the same.

20. Hillary is being treated like she's the DEFINITE Dem. nominee...
Edited on Mon Oct-01-07 10:01 AM by jenmito
No matter how she performs in a debate she's annointed the clear winner. Things she says are never scrutinized. On the flip side, everything OBAMA says IS scrutinized, and called a mistake or "rookie" mistake, no matter what. Example-Hillary "doesn't answer hypotheticals" and it's "presidential" or "savvy." When she laughs at the question of why she voted for the Lieberman resolution, she's seen as "confident." If Obama would've laughed at a question like that he would've been called inexperienced, unable to deal with the tough questions, on and on. Nobody points out her flip-flops on talking to our enemies and torture, they ignore the fact that she said she'd take nukes off the table when dealing with Iran, yet bash Obama for saying he'd strike within Pakistan AS A LAST RESORT to get bin Laden if all diplomacy failed and Musharraf wouldn't help.

Hillary can do no wrong in the eyes of the media. She dodged nearly every question when she went on the talk shows, and she's labelled as "not having a glove laid on her" BECAUSE she didn't answer anything. BILL Clinton got a negative story killed so the magazine could continue to have access to him. Every single talking head says she's almost certainly going to be the Dem. nominee and they spend their entire shows comparing her to Rudy or Romney.

23. I have seen this before
I was (and remain) the biggest Wes Clark supporter you will come across. This is the same thing that happened to Clark in 2004. What I didn't see was that behind the scenes, Clark's campaign organization wasn't nearly as strong as the other candidates.

So I kept getting pissed at the media for ignoring Clark. But they knew something I didn't know.

In this election, no one has put together the organization that Hillary Clinton has. The media rarely mention it, because (in my opinion) no one is interested. But on the ground, Mrs Clinton has amassed an army of support, and a huge team of smart, experienced people to handle the details of her campaign.

The people in the media see it every day. They know the other candidates are not on a par with Hillary Clinton. If she loses a primary or two, then its a race. For now, it really is about Mrs Clinton.

Hillary and Rudy "cashin' in on 9-11" Giuliani as the Republican nominee. It's patently obvious the corporate media want the two of them as the nominees for their respective parties.

24. I think he's just sowing seeds of doubt
To prepare for the big switcheroo if Clinton DOES get the nomination.

At this point, Kurtz is probably confident that the media machine can do it's job and praise Clinton all the way to a nomination win.

Then, the big guns will come out. They're readying for the biggest fight for their jobs ever seen in American history.

The" honeymoon period" will end with a sickening thud if or when Clinton gets in.

Kurtz: Fox News is ‘entitled’ to ‘misinform our society.’

On Wednesday, during an appearance on Glenn Beck’s CNN Headline News show, Washington Post media critic Howard Kurtz said that Fox News is “entitled” to be “a cheerleader for the Bush administration” that is “misinforming our society.” Kurtz’s comments came in the context of dismissing the criticisms of MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann, who routinely mocks the cable news network.
