Hispanic workers call for boycott in Northern Nevada

Northern Nevada businesses could be faced with a boycott if a group of Hispanics get their way. The group has called the three-day boycott after Immigration and Enforcement Officials raided 11 McDonald’s restaurants and arrested 54 alleged illegal workers. The group is also calling for a general strike by all Hispanic workers on Wednesday to show the strength and scope of the Hispanic work force in the Northern Nevada economy.

4. would they do the same if the illegals were Asian, not Latino?
Probably not. Identity politics at its worst.

10. If most of the illegals were Asian

You bet your ass there'd be raids on Asians. Enough of the race card already. Why is one race supposed to be allowed to break the law, while the rest of us have to obey it?

That's the million-dollar question that illegal alien supporters steadfastly refuse to answer. Because they know the truth: That making one race exempt from the law IS racism at its most disgusting.

12. I believe that provis99 was talking about whether Hispanic workers
would be protesting if it were Asians that had been detained. He wasn't wondering if the raids would have taken place.

provis99 is probably right about the identity politics playing a role here. If it were Asians or Blacks that had been detained it would be more likely that any protest would come from their race/ethnic group, not from Hispanics.

There is some fear in the Hispanic community that the raids most frequently net Hispanics which raises, at least, the possibility that some legal Hispanics will get caught up in the increasing number of immigration raids and some employers may minimize hiring Hispanics to avoid the hassle and potential legal liability.

5. Test cases?
Let's see how these raids affect Northern Nevada's economy. If the outcome is what I suspect, N. Nevada will be telling the INS to call off their dogs.

7. Why are they taking it out on McDonald's?
Were they McDonald's Immigration and Enforcement officers? Does McDonald's have their own Immigration Enforcement department? I didn't think so.

8. Why don't they raid the employers?
Charge each and every employer who hires illegal immigrants. That'll solve the problem right quick.

Hiring illegals is illegal in itself, right?

11. Let 'em boycott
Nevada is a tourist mecca. There will be no shortage of people of other races (and Hispanics who are here legally, and support our laws), who will gladly step up and buy a Big Mac and fries.

As for the walkout, remember the last time that happened? There were only two things accomplished by that march: 1) A lot of illegal-supporters got their butts fired for walking out, and 2) the L.A. freeways were a lot less congested.
