Biden is absolutely correct, Dems MUST show their competence in national security |
|
While the drastic incompetence of W and the GOP has made more Americans trust the Democrats, too many - way too many Americans STILL trust the GOP to make sound foreign policy/national security decisions. Another thread recently posted about Biden stating this fact, and everyone jumped on him for saying it, but it's true.
This shouldn't be that hard to the candidates (and noncandidates as well) to do. They should constantly hammer with the many, many examples of how bad the GOP is on these matters.
And frankly the same goes for the"values voters" bullshit.
I am a values voter too. And I'm sure everyone else here is as well. Jesus did speak once or twice about helping those of us who have the least. Healthcare, education and other issues are pro-life. Being against the death penalty (and not being among Iraq, Iran and a few other wonderful nations in that exclusive club) is pro-life, and truly Christian (among other religions as well).
This should all be turned around to expose the Republicans. The GOP only cares about a warped negative Old Testament mentality, where most Democrats (Christian or not) practice and live by what Jesus (and others) spoke about, helping others, and being a POSITIVE force.
Ok so I rambled on more than national security, but it frustrates me that this isn't clear in the country, as we are who they merely claim to be, but the perception is the opposite.

2. yes, but they must do it by changing directions, not by OUT-NEOCONNING... |

...the republicans at their own game, not by championing the same issues-- an american security state, U.S. hegemony in the middle east, a corrupt and immoral foreign policy, and so on. Dems need to CHANGE the national security dialog, not simply try to shout louder than the republicans. So far, I don't see any evidence of that. Do you?

4. absolutely, & today it was reported that violence is up 25% in Afghanistan |
|
Yet another chance to demonstrate how badly incompetent the GOP and that a Democrat would focus on relevant areas like that.

Democrats CAN offer foreign policy alternatives, but the vast majority do not. Kucinich gets it.

3. Dems need to be clear and sharp especially on TV |
|
we see so much 'waffling' that people don't get the point. The GOP have a sharper message that goes in.

abortion, evolution, gay marriage, and 9/11. The message is getting old and redundant.

5. Thankfully Biden, and I will add Edwards, are displaying passion |
|
about these issues while they are out campaigning.
The GOP does not care about people - period. Whether they are black people standing on the roofs of their house, families who cannot afford healthcare, or our troops. They only care about the corporations and where the oil is.

13. Biden referred to the Bible passages regarding Pharisees |
|
My favorite quote from the Bible is found in Romans, and it was written by Saint Paul.
"Yea, though I speak with the tongues of angels and of men, yet have not love nor charity, I am but a tinkling cymbal, a sounding brass."
I like Biden because he does more than talk. He acts out of conscience and delivers results. He is no tinkling cymbal nor sounding brass (meaning a gong).

18. I disagree-- defeat and capitulation are the correct answers if... |
|
...the current policy is dead wrong-- we must acknowledge that, and change the direction of the nation. We have to admit that the current "national security" policy-- safety through loss of civil liberty, international bullying, etc., is wrong and likely makes the security problem worse. Certainly our foreign policy is part of the problem, rather than the solution. That is likely tantamount to capitulation to the security nuts.

20. Competence in national security means disavowing imperialism-- |
|
--and getting back to actual DEFENSE of the country. If Bushco hadn't been so busy poring over maps of Iraq's oil fields in 2000-2001, 9/11 would never have happened. All the necessary information was in the system.
I've asked this question many times in many threads, and haven't gotten an answer. What in bleeding hell does having 700-1000 military bases all around the world have to do with self-defense?
