What Kind of People?
What kind of people still believe, all evidence to the contrary, that Saddam Hussein was behind the attacks of September 11, 2001?

What kind of people have heard their President lie repeatedly, and get caught in those lies, and still believe a word he says?

What kind of people think sanctioning torture is Christian behavior?

What kind of people think keeping our soldiers from having appropriate rest periods from combat equates to Supporting the Troops?

What kind of people believe that vetoing a bill that ensures heathcare for children is a sign that their president cares about the welfare of our nation’s most vulnerable citizens?

What kind of people believe that their president’s position on immigration, which is totally opposite to that of his party’s constituents, is reflective of his desire to protect their interests?

What kind of people think that the opinions of Bill Kristol and Paul Wolfowitz, regardless of the fact that they have been proven wrong on every issue to-date, should still be given weight?

What kind of people watched their fellow citizens in New Orleans die for lack of food and water, and still think this administration is capable of looking after their needs in a time of disaster?

What kind of people remove their shoes and empty their shampoo bottles before boarding an airplane full of uninspected cargo, and believe they are being protected?

What kind of people impugn the integrity of decorated war heroes like Max Clelland, but laud the patriotism of draft-dodgers like Cheney?

What kind of people question the contribution of those whose military service is a matter of record, but accept without question the service of a president who has yet to produce his military records?

What kind of people look at the suffering of the Iraqis, and still believe we are liberators?

What kind of people look at the destruction wrought by our occupation of Iraq, and still believe that there is a victory to be had?

What kind of people watch jobs disappear, houses being foreclosed on, poverty on the rise, and still think they’re living in a booming economy?

What kind of people support the separation of Church and State only in respect of other people’s religions, but not their own?

What kind of people quote the Bible and Ann Coulter, Rush Limbaugh and Bill O’Reilly in the same breath, and don’t recognize the inherent differences?

What kind of people hear Republican politicians preach about moral values while they’re pocketing bribe-money and spending it on prostitutes, and don’t recognize the inherent hypocrisy?

What kind of people?

Incredibly stupid people, that’s who.

'Nuff said.

3. As usual, my dear Nance...
You've really hit the nail on the head with this most excellent rant!

But still it makes me sad that so much of our country still believes all these things...

But maybe, just maybe, the tide is turning...

I look for great things to happen next November, 2008!

K&R, of course...

11. What kind of people would REFUSE to impeach and remove a President who repeatedly lied
and got caught in those lies?

What kind of people would grant an authoritarian regime the constitution-eviscerating power of The Patriot Act without even reading it? What kind of people would renew or extend it?

What kind people would claim to condemn a barbaric, illegal war, repeatedly claim they were lied to and deceived into it, while they keep opening the purse and handing over the angry peoples' billions MORE to keeping funding such a war?

What kind of people would run for the highest office of leadership in this country and fear having their votes be recorded for or against such an act of betrayal?

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=102x3013201

What kind of people would keep defending or rationalize or vote for these kind of people?

Yes, the Freepers are a nightmare. But not the entire extent of our long late nightmare. The rest is harder to characterize, but the word facilitation came to my mind a lot today. You can't exactly call yesterday's war spending vote "Republican obstructionism"...

"I deny that America is a land of fools. We all know. Everyone of us. What some do not know, they do not want to know. The myth of propaganda is that it imparts falsehoods to the people. The truth of propaganda is that it discovers the falsehoods that the people want to believe, and imparts it to them as they want it.

The hypnotist cannot hypnotize someone who is not willing.

The falsehoods disseminated by the Leaders and the Media are the alibis for the Many doing what they want to do anyway. Propaganda is the cover for the crime: We did not know what we were doing. We were deceived. We were dupes. We were fools. Therefore, we can profit and do what we do with a clear conscience."

Facilitating Fascism

J'accuse by Zbignew Zingh

copyleft 2006

What kind of doctors has the United States trained who stand by idly while prison guards force-feed prisoners in Guantanamo Bay with plastic pipes shoved down the noses of the shackled and tortured?

What kind of psychologists have we educated who assist the Pentagon inventing new ways to torture men and women, breaking their minds without breaking their skin; who help create government propaganda, plant false news stories, devise “psy-ops” to mislead us all?

What kind of lawyers are these who work for the Department of “Justice”, the “Defense” Department, the Pentagon or the White House, who waste their careers finding legal loop-holes justifying torture, deceit, eavesdropping and imprisonment without charge?

What manner of scientists, hardware and software engineers have we graduated who dedicate their intelligence and creativity to devising deadlier weapons, more secretive ways to snoop, and more innovative ways to kill?

What types of ministers, priests, rabbis, chaplains and reverends are these who mutter empty palliatives to their congregations, run through empty chants and mindless prayers and paeans to Love and Holiness in pursuit of a Life to Come, while today, right now, human carrion burns in their names, and naught do they do at all?

What types of writers, journalists, editors, reporters, actors, what types of men and women are these who slavishly say and write and do as they are told knowing that they spread lies and deception and blather?

Although this nation is led by a few, its actions are facilitated by many. We are the facilitators – the professionals, the educated, the trained – we are the ones whose skills and knowledge keep the whole machinery moving, the cogs oiled, the system operating smoothly. Without the collaboration of the entire class of facilitators, nothing happens. No invasions occur, no bombs drop, no one is tortured, no one is disappeared, no doublespeak is spoken. The minority of “Leaders” do not actually commit hands-on crimes. You will not find Mr. Rumsfeld's, Mr. Cheney's, Mr. Bush's fingerprints at the crime scenes in Iraq any more than you could find Mr. Kissinger's on the casket of Allende. The leaders lead, but their employees, the facilitator classes, do the deeds.

I deny that America is a land of fools.

Therefore, we can profit and do what we do with a clear conscience.

J'accuse!

There is no one in the educated world who cannot know the truth if s/he will know it.

The psychologists, lawyers, writers, reporters, ministers, scientists, engineers and doctors who deny the reality of the harm they do as employees and as gladiators-for-hire for this global empire would also deny the nose on their face.

The brightest minds on earth gave us the nuclear bomb... deployed by the dumbest, most venal minds on earth. Science and medicine and the law, in the service of military aggression, do not discover knowledge, heal or seek truth. Rather, they become weapons themselves, no better than cudgels wielded by cavemen. The scientist, doctor, psychologist, chaplain or reporter who sell their services, and their professional oaths, their professional creeds, their professional standards, for the sake of a Job, a Career and Security, do not deserve the name “professionals.” These are not real doctors, psychologists, lawyers or scientists who “research” on behalf of their clients and employers how better to harm people, how more efficiently to interrogate them, how more effectively to kill them, how to sell them more drugs, more lies and more harmful products, how to develop more intrusive technologies to probe private lives. They are prostitutes. They are mice. They are the facilitators of crime. They know it. We know it.

J'accuse!

It is not endless polite protest and demonstrations - as and where permitted - that will stop war and aggression. Nor will socially responsible investing nor voting for Tweedle Dee or Tweedle Dum nor giving to charity nor meditating nor even publishing trivial little essays like this.

What puts a stop to all is when the majority of the facilitators of fascism – the professionals, the psychologists, lawyers, doctors, writers, reporters, teachers, ministers, priests, rabbis, scientists and engineers decide, at last... if ever... to rebel against the employment that makes them well-salaried galley slaves rowing to the beat of a danse macabre.

Let there be Leaks.

Let there be breaks in the ranks.

Let there be Dissenters.

Let there evolve vertebrate professionals and the evolution of a new facilitator class. One with true professionalism. A facilitator class with class.

12. Good Post.

I don't spend much time wondering whats wrong with Republicans or Freepers.
They are behaving exactly as I expect them to behave. They are, afterall, Republicans, and you can't blame a dog for acting like a dog.

I have spent much more time over the last 7 years wondering about Democrats, especially since '06.
I expect Democrats to behave differently than Republicans.

Its getting worse.
Or at least more obvious since Democrats were voted into the Majority in '06.
The Democratic excuses for furthering the Republican agenda are absurd.

13. Yes, but not quite 'nuff said
Stupidity is fueled by ignorance, and ignorance is fueled by:

- a news media that, collectively, doesn't give two fucks about actually reporting the news, for many reasons, none of them valid or ethical

- 30 years of (mis)framing public discourse, so much so that even Democrats now have to participate in a "public discourse" that any rational nation would find risible

- woeful standards of education in civics, history, etc. etc. etc.

In other words, "stupid" is correct, but I don't think it's incredible at all. Given how much has gone unchecked, how much has been countenanced by the ruling elites, both D and R, given how far the "free press" has become a sorry Constitutional joke, given the manipulation of public (mis)perception by the right for a long time now... it could hardly be otherwise.

Not to let anyone off the hook here; stupid is stupid. But stupid has been nurtured like a hothouse flower in America for a long time now. Evidently it's in someone's interest to keep nurturing stupid. And it's working impeccably well, though nothing much else in the country is...

Ignorance is a state of not knowing. Stupidity is the deliberate choice to remain in ignorance.

15. Here's what my dad would answer:
"...but the Democrats are worse!!"

He's a Republican voter who willingly listens to and believes every lie the RW talkers tell about Democrats. Because he's on the other "team"--the ones who are usually the "good guys". Now their guys are showing themselves to be losers, but the other side, in their minds, are still worse. So they stick with their losers.

To him FOX news is the only reliable news. And he thinks I'm just an unfortunate soul who went to college and got corrupted by a lot of Liberals.

Not stupid,exactly-- just willfully ignorant.

28. I Am Sick and Tired of Stupid People
I didn't used to be angy most of the time. Since the anointment there has been one thing after another to become enraged about.

I am Christian and the religious right scares the crap out of me. What they call Christianity is exclusive, racist and goes against everything I have ever been taught. The hatred dripping from their voices is appalling and they wonder why people reject them.

I can't believe what I hear coming out of Bushbot's mouths. It defies all logic and commons sense. To say a troop knew what they were getting into while they sit on their butts and criticize goes past stupidity and into immoral.

These same people say nothing while our civil rights have been taken away. These are the same people who smirk when vile comments are made about vets and then become outraged when someone criticizes one of their mouth pieces.

Why does the small percentage of stupid people get so much MSM coverage?
