Peitition asking Pelosi to either take war funding vote or resign as speaker
A vote on stopping the war is important to go into the record of history a vote to end the war would place a statement that the American citizens do not find George Bush’s continuation of the war is not acceptable.

We need Speaker Pelosi to voice the feelings of the American Public and call to the end of the War in Iraq.

If she feels this action is useless then we ask that Nancy Pelosi resign as Speaker of the House and allow someone to step up to the position who is not afraid to make the majority of American citizens voices heard.

6. Not Good Enough
Another meaningless vote for the historical record does not stop the violence and death in Iraq.

Pelosi should get on board with the American people and not have the House Democrats send to the floor anything but an appropriation with funds only for withdrawing the troops.

Then, if the minority can or does put forth a funding resolution, then we will see how principled the Democrats really are ... that is what we need.

This petition doesn't get to the heart of the matter -- stopping the funding.

8. Pelosi and the other Dems
They all promised the American people they would end the war if elected. Well here we are--they got elected--and still there is no end in sight for the Iraq war. They have the power--but lack the guts to pull the purse strings on the war and end it. America was promised--America voted--and yet again the democrat party has let me down--and let America down. Soon to be an Independent voter if this continues. Congress has an alltime low approval rating--its less than Bush's approval rating for pete's sake--where have all the good democrats gone?

Let's see if this makes enough of an impression on Nancy that she will try and do something instead of armchair accountability.

15. Pelosi is doing all she can do.
As I remember a bill was past putting forth a timetable for withdrawing troops. If you don’t have the votes to override a veto, the only other choice is de-funding the military while there are troops in a war zone. You are right the majority of Americans do want an end to the war, however what you don’t realize is that they what an end to war through a responsible draw down with a timetable. Yanking the troops out is not palatable for the majority of Americans, if you de-fund the military that’s exactly what will happen.

With those facts present Nancy Pelosi is doing what the majority of Americans want. What we should be doing is going after the real obstruction to the will of Americans the REPUBLICANS!

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/10/01/AR2007100101235.html?hpid=topnews

So no, she is not doing what Americans want.
But most importantly, she is not doing what we, as her constituents in District 8, want which is end the war and impeach the criminals in the whitehouse.

23. You can’t have it both ways.
When asked if the troops should come home immediately. 68% said No. When asked if you want a timetable for withdraw 66% said yes. When asked if the Bush administration should be impeached 59% said no. The American people want the war de-funded but do not want the troops pulled out immediately. Any bill that comes forward with any kind of restrictions W will veto. There is no way to just de-fund the war without de-funding the whole military as long as the republicans stay with W. You de-fund the military W will have no choice but to pull out immediately which would be going against the will of the American people.

34. You can’t pull out immediately and pull out gradually.
My point is that you cant have it both ways. Pull out immediately and pull out gradually. As long as the republican’s stay with W there are only two options in the current legislative environment. Pull out immediately or let W have what he wants. As long as the republicans have 60 votes they can keep any other funding bill from reaching a vote. The dems can cut funding for the entire military but that would force an immediate pull out which most Americans do not want. Not to mention other safety ramifications for de-funding the military while troops are in a war zone.

In my opinion the most logical course of action is to continue committee investigations and when the new year turns I bet you will see enough republicans that are up for reelection start to peal away from W and vote for de-funding of the war.

38. Government 101
Reality hurts. The facts are the facts. You have been sold a bill of goods if you think a pull out or de-funding of the war is possible without republican help. The only other option of de-funding the military is ludicrous and if were to happen the ramifications would put dems back in the minority for another 2o years.

42. How do you make a democratic majority materialize from thin air?
It may be palatable for you to de-fund the entire military while troops are in a war zone. But is not to the American people according to all polls on the subject. Maybe you can explain how you will “WILL” more of a democratic majority with out an election because that is what it will take to de-fund this war with out republican help.

Yes, it may not be pretty or popular but the Democrats need to use the power of the purse.
That is the only way to end this quagmire.
If you don't like it, go back to the Republican party.

Republicans don’t use commonsense and it seems brainwashed Kucinichites don’t either. Keep “willing” because the dems don’t have the full power of the purse without a veto proof majority. It may not be popular or pretty but that’s how government works like it or not. Civics 101.

51. The biggest enabler is Kucinich.
When you make statements and spew rhetoric that has no basses in fact. You help the other side. All Kucinich dose is run for president (while ignoring Ohio’s 10th district) makes inflammatory unrealistic claims and fires up the republicans and alienates the independents. All that can do is help republicans win elections hence enabling more of the same. You see DLC is not enabling Kucinich is.
