Edited on Wed Oct-03-07 09:37 AM by zulchzulu

If this was a basketball game, would the team with 63 points be beating the one with 75 points? Would the sportscaster being saying "Look Bob! It's a blowout! With 63 points, that is stealing their thunder!" What's even funnier would be that the team with 63 points was spotted 10 points before the game (as in Clinton used $10 million from her 2006 race to fudge the numbers).

The guy would be fired on site or checked for substance abuse.

3. The media has been waiting to call the race.
As far as they are concerned, this was the last roadblock to the coronation.

I wouldn't worry about it unless Obama's fund raising doesn't pick back up.

10. A "major dropoff"? That's a stretch...
1st Quarter
O - 25
C - 20
(Diff= 5)

2nd Quarter
O - 31
C - 21
(Diff= 10)

3rd Quarter
O - 22
C - 19
(Diff= 3)

The difference is still 12 points.

That's a "major dropoff"?

8. Well, dollars aren't votes.
That is the first problem with your argument. Ten rich assholes can provide the same amount of cash that a thousand poor folk can come up with, but those ten rich assholes only have ten votes between them.

The second issue is momentum. The two graphs look like tortise on the left, hare on the right. And we know how that turned out.

Bottom line--anyone trying to read tea leaves by money raised, or poll numbers now, is just 'touting.' It's way too soon yet to suggest anyone has a lock, or anyone can't win. There are a shitload of genuine undecideds out there yet--hell, I'm one of 'em.

14. Love that headline!
"Clinton Steals Obama’s Fund-Raising Thunder"

"Still, Mr. Obama’s falling behind Mrs. Clinton since July, by a modest but meaningful margin of $3 million, suggests that the fund-raising terrain was moving in Mrs. Clinton’s favor. Few analysts or Democratic officials predicted it, and several of them said yesterday that there was new pressure on him — and another top contender, former Senator John Edwards — to compete more aggressively with Mrs. Clinton."

And there is pleny more, thanks for the read zulchzulu.

16. Here's what I love about the whole fundraising scene:
If person A raises 100$, and person B raises 1000$, who do you think should run the better campaign? Obviousley person B. Yet, in this race, Hillary represents person A, and she beats Obama in the polls by 30%++. It just shows that she is the better candidate.

13. Call the New York Times...
The $22 million is delegated for the primary season. The remainder would be given to the Obama campaign for the presidential run after he is nominated.

:hi:

15. You just answered your own question
You're trying to put a cap on support. If you are trying to determine who is "winning" (in support, I assume) based on how much money they raise, then maybe you should count the total amount, not the capped amount.

20. The OP is equating money with support
Edited on Wed Oct-03-07 11:14 AM by Lirwin2
If you are playing that way, then you would be forced to look at the TOTAL AMOUNT of money raised, not *only* the money that can be used in the primary.

For the sake of debate, what if Hillary had raised 300 million$ in this quarter? Would the OP only count her "support" as 3 million more than Obama, since it caps at 22 million?

24. OK, let's add 5 to 63. That's 68. Last I checked 75 is more than 68.
If you want to really down to brass tacks, let's deduct the 10 that was spotted before the season started. That makes it 75 to 58.

Don't respond. It's pointless. You'll just get schooled.

26. You're kidding right?
You're equating the amount of money earned with who is "winning." Money doesn't win an election (as much as I'm sure you would love that), SUPPORT wins an election. The reason Hillary is winning is because of her SUPPORT, not her money, which, as this quarter has shown, continues to rise as Obama's continues to fall.

29. This actually paints a bleak picture for Obama's chances
He lagged behind in polls despite raising more money. Now that Hillary is catching up finacially, he won't have that advantage.
