Maybe the GOPers actually like John Edwards in WI
The fact that GOPer voted for him is not some malicious meddling

They might actually like Edwards! SHeesh.

Besides if the GOP was making a concerted effort to mess with a Kerry coronation.... they would have voted in droves for Howard Dean.

1. I think you are right
To suggest that alllll republicans like George Bush is a huge stretch.

Some republicans are actually conservatives, who believe in a balanced budget, no unnecessary foreign wars, some protectionism in defense of jobs, etc.

6. I thought from a debate question he wasn't in office for DOMA vote.
Also - if anyone heard Edwards on Jay Leno - he said that if, for example, California and New York wanted to pass legislation allowing Gay marriage (not civil unions) he was all for it - that it should be up to the state.

Diane Keaton was sitting next to him, and she clapped and smiled and grabbed his hand - it was kind of a neat and defining moment.

I was like - wow - Edwards just made news.

4. I had to vote repuke in an all repuke area to have a voice...
in local politics (when no dems were on the ballot).

Whenever possible, I voted for the weakest repuke candidate on the ballot.

5. It's possible that Republicans scared out having their jobs outsourced
will be voting Democratic - IF we get an anti-outsourcing candidate. Since there is barely a difference between Kerry and Bush on trade issues - and Kerry now has *big* Wall Street money behind him, the only difference we can draw between Bush and Kerry are over social issues - where the GOP has a slight advantage.

If Edwards just came out and said - "I'd repeal NAFTA and get us out of the WTO" he'd pick up 10% of the GOP vote - disgruntled Buchananites and Perot fans.

8. My mom, who is very republican in her voting
has asked me for my copy of Four Trials, and is very interested in considering Edwards as a Presidential candidate.

Republicans SERIOUSLY are not happy with Bush, for many obvious reasons. His support is crumbling with our problems overseas and our budget and job problems.

10. So 5% of Wisconsin voters were enthusiastic about Bush?
And 36% of that 5% voted for Edwards, equaling about 2.2% of the vote.

Vast right-wing conspiracy! BTW, aren't you a Clark supporter? I thought his main positive was cross-over appeal. No?

11. My grandmother is a Republican who likes Edwards
Edited on Wed Feb-18-04 04:27 PM by dawn
She can't vote in the CA primary, but she would vote for Edwards in November. She voted for Bush* in 2000 and feels betrayed by the Medicare bill and the economy, as well as his spending.

She wouldn't vote for Bush over Kerry, either. She'd stay home. BUT, she said she would vote for Edwards. Why? She just said she likes the guy.

PS She didn't know I supported him when she told me.
