Poll question: Do you think the Republicans will campaign nicely this time?
Full disclosure. I am an active Hillary volunteer in NH.
_________________________________________________________

I get the impression since returning to DU that people here have short memories. I for one, believe that the repugs already have their arsenal full of attack videos and lies about all our top candidates. They will stop at nothing to distract the voters with meaningless web cartoons, cute emails and full-on nasty lying TV ads. No candidate is immune but I feel H has a calloused skin and is best equipped to fight back.

I also do not for one second believe the likes of Karl Rove are gone from the scene. He and his pack of rats are just out of the public eye.

Do you think the Republicans will campaign nicely this time?

1. Add another choice, "Why would they?"
I used to believe that there were differences between Dems and Repubs that would be aired, debated, and resolved through compromise. I used to think that until Newt Gingrich stated in 1994 "We will cooperate, but we will not compromise." I thought, "But 'compromise' is the foundation of a democracy." Man, was I ever naive...

Gingrich set the stage for one-party rule. And we've seen where that has gotten us!

F**k the GOP...as far as I'm concerned, they're the real enemy.

They are the real enemy.

One party rule. Private armies making billions off Iraqi deaths.

They are scum.

10. As a diabetic, I look to research with stem-cells for a cure...
Yet the GOP has said, F**k you KansDem! No stem-cell research!"

And when I buy prescriptions for my disease, I pay top dollar. Why? the GOP has said, "F**k you, KansDem! No competition in drug prices resulting in lower prices!"

Now the GOP (via Bush) has said, "F**k you and your children, KansDem, no S-CHIP!"

I mean, who's the enemy here...my enemy? It's not some Iraqi! That's for certain. I have no quarrel with them!

Yesterday, I had breakfast out with my wife. We stopped in at a local restaurant that we've been going to for 20 years or so. But it's always been somewhat of a hangout for what I suspect are right-wing GOPers--there are a lot of cars in the parking lot with "support the troops" magnets and "proud to be American" bumper stickers. There is the occasional "Kerry/Edwards" bumper sticker but by and far, it appears GOPers outnumber Dems.

So I'm sitting there talking with my wife and I suddenly stop and look around. I see a lot of self-important "Murikans" simpering with the wait staff, chuckling nervously after each remark even though it wasn't funny. Maybe, just maybe, they see the present administration as the criminal cabal it is, but, for some reason, I doubt it. I see people with whom I have absolutely nothing in common. I see people who would sit back and do nothing when the health and safety of me and my family are jeopardized! The fact that Bush and the GOPers are still "all powerful" tells me this. I tell my wife my thoughts and she thinks I may be "over-reacting." But I say I don't know...there was a time I'd look at this people and think, we may have differences but we're all Americans and will help one another when the need arises. But not anymore.

I don't know if it's just willful ignorance or an unwavering need to deny empathy to anyone not perceived as "Merikun" as defined by Bush/GOP, but I really feel the real enemy is not sitting in the desert half-way around the world; the real enemy can be sipping coffee and eating biscuits and gravy right next to me.

12. The problem really is
Those people you see in the restaurant are just ignorant followers. They are blind to how the wrong wing has shafted them and given their money to the billionaires. They believe all the Rush Limbaughs of the world without questioning. They are mere children. We can fight back and we can slowly win the ignorant over with positive messaging to them at their level, the 12 year old level.

14. as with any bully, here is what will happen in 2008
Some really odd group called "LawyersForTruth" or something like that will start a swiftboat campaign against Hillary. Within 24 hours, that group will be exposed, their members embarassed, their funding revealed, and a counter attack will be launched against Rudy/Thompson/Romney 10 times as vicious and in twice the television markets.

Within 48 hours, Rudy/Thompson/Romney will be on TV condemning the group that attacked Hillary and calling for a clean campaign from both camps.

See, people, when a bully pushes you, you grab a baseball bat and shove it up their ass. That is one of the GOOD things lots of money in a campaign does.

27. Yeah. they wanted my Jew ass gone or never born, too
Edited on Thu Oct-04-07 02:06 PM by tom_paine
I would submit that getting rid of the Jews was no more a real issue than Gay Marriage, just some nonsense meant to distract the stupid and gullible.

Naturally, even in Amerika's debased and dying coniditon, as a Jew I am thrilled my grandparents escaped Stalinist Russia (Hitler's Commie alter-ego), that landed me here in America.

Because, even as we are being systematically getting gleichschaltung ("brought into line") by the Bushies, I am very aware that I am in little danger of violence and no danger of having my skin made into soap. Also I am very thankful that our Bushies are forced to pursue a different and less violent path to the same unchecked power than the Nazis took.

Alligators are stubborn, and so are High Social Dominators who make and made up the Leadership of the Bushies and Nazis alike, as well as the weak-minded, gullible Right-Wing Authoritarian Followers, who carry out the Leader's dirty work without much conscience nor thought.

Please feel free to click on my signature line link, which shows exactly how and why the two groups are very closely related. Please read that and understand where the Bushie = Nazi belief comes from, why it is legitimately grounded in science, in fact, and why it does not dishonor the Holocaust Dead but honors them, not by trivializing their deaaths, but by exposing the forces which may lead to something equally terrible BEFORE it happens, this time around.

37. Here's a link to the Naomi Wolf interview that backs up your statements -
chillingly so. She draws the parallels and also counts down the steps Bushco has taken on the road to fascism. If you haven't read this (or her book) you might find it simpatico with your beliefs. REALLY an eye-opener for me.

25. The only reason why they're quiet right now...
is because the person they have in their sights is in the lead.

If you think GD-P is getting ugly, just wait til the General. I don't have the confidence in Hillary to counter effectively, and I don't have the confidence in the American voter to not buy into the bullshit we haven't even begun to witness.

Hint: It won't be about policy. It's always a character assassination.

36. The repubs might try it but one thing
this election if HRC gets the nomination will be she and her team will fight back and move from defense to offense in one swift rebuttal.
The national polls at this point in time see that former president Clinton will be a plus to HRC. This was polling at 56% as a plus and here again if the reight wing brings up the impeachment or monica the public like last time tried to tell the republicans not to impeach but they had the fever and if this is done in 08 camapign the public will turn their backs on them again....

Maybe they will and the dems will put 300 in the house and 67 in the senate....
