Poll question: Should Congressman Kucinich vote to override the veto of the SCHIP bill?
Edited on Wed Oct-03-07 02:30 PM by Freddie Stubbs
Mr. Kucinich originally voted against this bill because it did not cover the children of immigrants. He is the only Democrat running for President who voted against the bill.

1. Long time Kucinich supporter. Yes he should vote to override the veto.
Perfection isn't possible in this world, and sometimes we have to take what we can get, when we can get it.

2. He should not have voted against it in the first place...
Another pass by Kucinich on an opportunity to show some leadership ability...

10. probably won't have to
Pursuant to the Constitution, a veto override vote starts in the house of congress from which the bill originated, which in this case is the House of Representatives. The "other" house only considers a veto override if the originating house votes to override. So, unless there is a miracle and the House of Reps overrides chimpy's veto, there will not be an override vote in the Senate.

4. Stick to his guns.
Children shouldn't be parsed for political reasons. If his vote could stop a veto, he would most likely change it. But I'm sure he can count.

6. It was OK to vote against it before...
...he could make a point with his vote because he knew the bill would pass.

No way he'll vote the same way for a veto override, with the slim margin. At least, I hope not.

8. Children are not responsible for the circumstances of their birth.
Dennis was right not to vote for this heartless bill. btw, we probably could get health care to every child in the planet with the money we have spent killing them in Iraq.

13. But should all poor kids suffer because some are suffering?

14. Of course not, but don't blame Kucinich for that, blame Bush.
Also, since those immigrant's kids will probably be much poorer than the poorest non-immigrant kids, I don't see the justice in cherry picking who gets health care or not. If this bill goes through, then it has to be morally right, otherwise more injustice is served and that can't be right. I think Dennis is calling attention to the flaw here so this injustice isn't carried on for years before Congress addresses it again. He is trying to get it addressed now.

9. He won't deserve to be President if he votes against this bill.
It will be just one more sign that he's a Don Quixote, tilting at windmills.
