Is the Edwards campaign misleading its myspace friends with a bogus poll?
Edited on Wed Oct-03-07 05:31 PM by rinsd
This was the bulletin posted via mysapce.

This morning a new poll was released that drove the point home that John Edwards is the only Democrat that can win in November. In every match-up with a Republican candidate John Edwards wins. He’s the only Democratic candidate that wins in every single match-up. It’s that simple.

40% Giuliani
49% Edwards

41% Fred Thompson
47% Edwards

32% Romney
53% Edwards

46% Romney
40% Obama

54% Giuliani
33% Obama

55% Fred Thompson
35% Obama

44% Romney
47% Clinton

50% Fred Thompson
44% Clinton

47% Giuliani
44% Clinton

The fact is; if we want to win in November John Edwards needs to be the nominee. The only way John will be the Democratic nominee is if supporters like you help spread the word on and offline.

So what poll is the Edwards campaign talking about that has Obama down by the absurd on its face 20 pts to Rudy and Fred? There is no link and I can't find a reference to it anywhere in the usual places that post all the poll numbers.

UPDATE: Thanks to some sleuthing by DUer maximusveritas, it turns out this poll was a SurveyUSA poll of Oklahoma. http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=132&topic_id=3575578&mesg_id=3575597

The Edwards campaign should identify it as such.

3. Dishonesty from the Edwards campaign?
I'm simply shocked that the people that claimed that public financing wasn't based on a 'money calculation' would try to mislead people.

8. I'm not sure who is in charge of that myspace page
not sure if it is from the campaign directly. I got something from the campaign that did identify the poll as being from Oklahoma.

But, if a red state looks that good for one of the dem candidates, I don't think it should simply be dismissed.

I believe Edwards can win over a lot of red states. That's why I support him

9. I am fairly sure its the campaign who is in charge of the site.
I don't think the poll should be dismissed but properly identified.

10. And also remember what it reflects...

I am not sure that we should let bigotry choose our nominee, and somehow this is what this poll reflects.

Is it what the Edwards campaign is about? "I can win because I am a white man from the South". Somehow, I do not believe this is what Edwards is about, which is why this bothers me a lot.

12. Yeah that really leaped out.
Which is why I thought the poll was bogus on its face.

Very sad though that bigotry would still have such a hold on a sizeable portion of the population.

14. Where did I say that? Where did anyone say that?
I think the positions he takes on the issues are what sets him apart and what makes him appeal to voters across the spectrum.

15. Elon's polling record is not the greatest.
First they poll just eligible voters (those 18+) not registered voters or likely voters.

Its also a small sample size (246) with a high MOE +/- 6.4%.

Though any poll showing Edwards not winning his home state handily has got to hurt.

13. But it sounds so much better without identification.
It's not an honest strategy. to the Edwards campaign.

17. So you found the Edwards portrayal of the poll and omission of its source as above board?
"You'll say anything to smear somebody. I don't know why anybody calls you reasonable. Smear smear smear, that's all you do."

Perhaps people consider me reasonable because even though I can be an incredible asshole, I usually end up in shouting matches with you. People therefore likely draw their conclusions about who is reasonable via comparison. Yeah its like being valedictorian at summer school but I will take it.

19. Abused spouse syndrome
They think if they're nice to you, you won't beat the hell out of them. But you will if you have to, just like going after Edwards in this stupid poll thing when a reasonable person knows that all campaigns spin polls to their advantage. It's disgusting. I've never seen such a bunch of sore winners as you Hillary people.
