Most people that support Hillary can't see beyond January 20, 2009 |
|
Move forward to November 2010. The Clinton 44 Administration will have by then two years of uninterrupted war in Iraq under its belt, and two years of antiwar marches against its war policies (assuming that we are not at war with Iran). The Clinton 44 Administration is also facing opposition from the Left on its corporate-friendly health care proposal and neoliberal trade policies. It also faces mass resistance to its unwillingness to rollback the abuses of power of the Bush regime by restoring the Constitution to its pre-9/11 eminence, and dismantling the police state apparatus established by PATRIOT and subsequent repressive legislation and executive orders.
Assuming that we have none of the sleaze and scandals of Clinton 42, and factoring in the expected GOP reactionary behaviour (which will be present no matter which Democrat is in the White House) what will the outlook be for the 2010 elections? More importantly, how fractured will the Democratic Party become when it finds itself as the war party?

2. What do you see? The policies that the Clintons have always pushed as above, with no protests? |
|
Or progressive policies that would be vastly different from what the Clintons have been pushing?

4. see this DU post. HIllary is the only dem candidate to REFUSE to sign a pledge |
|
to restore civil liberties in the US if elected! Forget the subjective reasons. This is quite enough to make her inelligble for the dem ticket. And Obama almost did the same, but realized how serious it would be. Pretty much you can be for the war(s), or for the people.

26. given that some of us with family in Iraq take the woman at her |
|
word --2013-- maybe we have more than just a little more motivation to be SERIOUSLY PISSED at the way things are going and by what they say. Fuck them all. There have been nothing but lies from all sides and political tea leaf readings about how it will affect THEM instead of fearless and righteous efforts to end this abortion. Have some skin in the game and maybe it will give you clarity.

15. The "absolute shit" is that Hillary said she will keep combat troops in Iraq till 2013 |
|
and perhaps later. This is what President Hillary will see:
March 2009, antiwar demonstrations on the 6th anniversary of the war. October 2009, antiwar demonstrations on the 7th anniversary of IWR.
March 2010, antiwar demonstrations on the 7th anniversary of the war. October 2010, antiwar demonstrations on the 8th anniversary of IWR.
March 2011, antiwar demonstrations on the 8th anniversary of the war. October 2011, antiwar demonstrations on the 9th anniversary of IWR.
March 2012, antiwar demonstrations on the 9th anniversary of the war. October 2012, antiwar demonstrations on the 10th anniversary of IWR.
And if Hillary is reelected:
March 2013, antiwar demonstrations on the 10th anniversary of the war. October 2013, antiwar demonstrations on the 11th anniversary of IWR.

13. I enjoy reading all this deep thought and I would |
|
say most of the posters that write stuff like this hopes these things happen..I have a different take.. Once she wins the presidency she will be briefed on what is the straight skinny on what is happening in Iraq and Afghanistan....You will see her make several moves before she is sworn in and have all her ducks in a row especially the military side of things since HRC will not ignore the damn problem of Iraq as Bush did when informed that Al Queda would be his biggest worry....She will make every attempt to bring just about all the troops out of Iraq and turn it over....
Whether she brings them all home will be under discussion, but one thing to look for, HRC just might take those troops and head them west and go into afghanistan and clean that mess up and the troops come back victorious and Osama dead or captured......

14. History would repeat itself : 2010 would be like 1994 |
|
Congress would revert to Republican rule- and we'd lose tons of state legislatures and governorships- just like what happened the last time the Clintons were in office.

19. The reason for voting for Hillary has nothing to do with predictable events. |
|
We vote for people whose judgment we trust in unpredicted (largely unpredictable) events. That's what is important in a president, IMO, and that's what has defined almost every president's term of office... how they reacted to unexpected events.
I trust Hillary Clinton. She's my Senator, and I will vote for her in the NY primary, and hopefully in the GE.

28. Is Team Hillary reduced now to invoking the ghost of Joe McCarthy? |
|
Mark my words: If a President Hillary does not end the war in Iraq in 2009 and brings all the troops home, she will take ownership of the war, and Iraq will become a Democratic war.
In case your memory is foggy, a similar situation happened in 1969 when President Nixon did not end the war in Vietnam, took ownership of the war, and Vietnam became a Republican war.

Once they get to the Whitehouse I don't think they care what happens.
Obviously that's a broad brush and won't apply to all Hill supporters, but it's enough of them.
